I found this DVD for 99p in a bargain bookstore a couple of days ago. It's a documentary that the discovery channel did a while ago (I'm not sure when), it was narrated by Patrick Stewart. I think what I found mainly off putting was the title, it sounded like something which wouldn't really interest me. Nobody's ever recommended them to me either and yes they do look rather long when I see them on bookshelves.
The thing is that although the films are beautifully created and all, of course, but really - they barely manage scratch a surface of the sheer detail and depth and poetry that's in the books themselves.
If they give the main storyline, I'll have a better idea on whether I'll like the books. I also imagine they may be quite confusing, and I may be able to follow the books better if I watch the films first*G*
They really are a world onto themselves. :) Do try them if you feel like it.
I'll decide one way or another after I see the last film (assuming they show it the week after they show the second one). That should at least give me chance to work through more of my unread books.
