Chapter Four
By: Sharl
Reform, as it turned out, was a popular joint near the university and Jaejoong could understand why. The bar was decorated with dark brown colors, cozy booths and tables, well-stocked bars with many types of drinks and beers, and there were few bar games like darts, pools, scattered around the room. Music was blaring from the speakers, but not loud enough so that the guests couldn’t speak and hear each other. All in all, Reform was just cozy.
There weren’t many guests now as it was only noon. Jaejoong approached a waiter and smiled at her. “Hi, I’m looking for Choi Seunghyun?”
Surprisingly, the waiter narrowed her eyes. “Why?” she asked in hostile tone, and even crossed her arms defensively. “Seunghyun is busy, are you one of his fan boys? If you are, you can just tell the other fan boys to leave Seunghyun the hell alone.”
Jaejoong raised an eyebrow. What in the name of everything holy was she speaking? “Umm no, I have an interview appointment with him.”
The waiter snorted. “Yeah right, like I’d believe that. You’re the eleventh persons who use that excuses today and by god, you’re sorely mistaken if you think I’d be so naïve. I’ve told Seunghyun not to put advertisement in the campus’ notification board as it’d just bring his fan clubs swarming this place.”
“No, I really have an appointment with him.”
“Yeah and I’m Angelina Jolie.”
“Carol,” suddenly a deep voice interrupted them, “That one is okay, his name is Kim Jaejoong.”
Jaejoong tried his best not to drool, but the man in front of him was so drool-worthy. No wonder he got his own fan club. Choi Seunghyun was tall, not as tall as Changmin (really, nobody was as tall as Changmin) but what he lacked in height he made up in sexiness. The man oozed masculinity from every pore. Not in the overly-muscular-via-asteroid-kind of way, but the right amount of lean muscle. He also had a pair of very sharp eyes. Jaejoong suppressed a whimper when those eyes glanced at him.
Choi Seunghyun walked towards him with long steps. When he finally in front of Jaejoong, he gave him once look over. “Turn.”
Jaejoong blinked. “What?”
“Turn.” This time the order came with slightly raised eyebrow. Choi Seunghyun tsk-ed once when Jaejoong didn’t respond immediately and he made a circling gesture with his index finger. “I said, turn.”
“Oh.” Jaejoong obeyed and he turned around.
“Okay, stop,” said Choi Seunghyun when Jaejoong’s back was facing the other. Jaejoong froze. His hands were itching to take his gun that he hid behind his jacket. As a cop, he wasn’t used to turn his back to anyone and right now his instincts were screaming at him. Choi Seunghyun hmm-ed. “Alright, you’re hired. Start your shift at four PM tomorrow and I’ll be expecting you to come here half an hour early, so at 3:30 PM. You’ll be doing two shifts so you’ll work until 12:00 AM.”
Jaejoong turned around and looked at his new boss. “Wait. Just like that? You’re not going to see my, I don’t know, resume? Bartending skills?”
The bar manager stopped in his tracks. He looked at Jaejoong and smirked. Jaejoong did an inner squeal seeing how sexy this man was when smirking. “I can smell bartending skills from the moment you stepped in, Kim Jaejoong. You’re good looking, wear fashionable clothes and have a tattoo. You’re hired.”
However, after he’d taken few steps further from the flabbergasted Jaejoong, Choi Seunghyun looked over his shoulders and said. “Oh, and please leave your gun behind when bartending.”

The next day, exactly at 3:30 PM, Jaejoong showed up in his new workplace. He wore a dark jeans and a short sleeved black button down shirt, with a couple of top buttons conveniently undone. He had also left his gun, as per his new boss requested, though he had no idea how Choi Seunghyun could see that he got a gun with him. Usually only trained people could see that, so that meant Choi Seunghyun was familiar with guns and it brought more questions as to who Choi Seunghyun was.
Jaejoong mentally noted to keep an eye to his new boss, especially since how hot and sexy Choi Seunghyun looked.
The hostile waitress from the other day (Carol) showed Jaejoong where everything was and how to mix the bar’s special drinks. Jaejoong was eternally thankful to his drinking-buddy-fellow-policeman Kim Hyunjoong who taught him all the bartending skills he needed. Hyunjoong was a master in bartending. God bless him.
There were only few customers when Jaejoong first manned the bar, but as the night went on, more and more customers pouring in. Choi Seunghyun wasn’t kidding when he advertised that Reform was the most beloved bar for The Royal St. Peter de Lucia university. Students from various departments and majors came to get a drink or two. This wasn’t a game season yet and Jaejoong couldn’t imagine how crowded the bar must be during game season.
Choi Seunghyun watched him from across the bar. On one hand Jaejoong felt elated that such a sexy and gorgeous man watched him, but the logical part of his brain told him to be mindful, especially since his boss knew about the gun. But this was his first day on the job, and Jaejoong was determined to get the first hint to finish his mission and so he needed to keep up the pretense.
However, fated was clearly laughing at him. Jaejoong was placing an olive garnish to a dry martini and was about to smile at the girl who ordered it, when the asshole professor Jung Yunho came in. He was with a friend, a good looking man whom Jaejoong had never seen before.
The asshole Jung clearly recognized him, because he raised an eyebrow and walked to the bar. “Hello,” said asshole Jung.
Jaejoong felt his eyebrow twitched. “Hi. Can I get you anything?”
Instead of ordering, asshole Jung smirked in a way that made Jaejoong want to pummel that face with a barrel of wine. But in that case the wine would go to waste and Jaejoong sniffed disdainfully at the image. Such a pity to use a good wine on asshole Jung. The guy deserved expired food, in Jaejoong’s opinion.
In a contrast comparison, asshole Jung’s friend smiled and said cheerfully. “Hi! Can I get a stout?”
Jaejoong stared at the friend suspiciously, but he found no teasing remarks and the smile seemed genuine. Deciding that maybe asshole Jung’s friend was not a bad guy, Jaejoong smiled back. He reached for an empty glass and poured the stout beer as requested.
“Thanks!” asshole Jung’s friend said when Jaejoong handed him the drink. “Yunho, you want to shoot some pool?”
“Yeah, once I’ve get my drink from Jaejoong,” replied asshole Jung.
“Oh, you guys know each other?”
“He’s my student.”
Jaejoong scowled. He hated this. He was right there damn it and no one should speak about him as if he wasn’t! He coughed once to make himself known. Asshole Jung’s friend turned and immediately smiled again. “Oh sorry, I didn’t know that you’re Yunho’s friend. You must be a very good student to make him remember you like that.”
Asshole Jung laughed out loud. “Well, he’s certainly memorable, that’s for sure.”
“I’m Junsu by the way, Kim Junsu. My students usually call me Professor Kim. I teach history at Japanese Literature Faculty,” said asshole Jung’s friend.
“Nice to meet you,” Jaejoong said at Professor Kim. “I’m Jaejoong. Kim Jaejoong. Exchange student and majoring in Economy.”
Professor Kim sipped some of his stout and gestured at asshole Jung to order his drinks. Asshole Jung ordered a Lager, but not without a knowing smile to Jaejoong which the undercover cop happily ignored. Slamming the Lager on the table, he smiled forcefully at asshole Jung. “Enjoy your drink, sir.”
Asshole Jung looked like he wanted to say something -protesting, maybe- but he was dragged away by Professor Kim towards the pool section. Jaejoong waved sarcastically. He didn’t expect asshole Jung to be there but hey, even professors visited this bar. So this bar might be a really good place to gather some information then.
Somebody sat on the other side of the bar. Jaejoong turned and immediately smiled. Walking towards Changmin, he greeted his friend. “Hey, I didn’t expect to see you here. Minho said you have some papers due tomorrow.”
Changmin raised an eyebrow. “Unlike you, I don’t leave assignments until last minute, Jae. They are all done at least three days prior. This is why I don’t get thrown out from classes like you do,” he added with a playful smirk.
Jaejoong rolled his eyes. “What can I get you? And do give me generous tips, the boss needs to know that I can bring the bar good money on my first day.”
“Whisky. Straight up.”
Twenty seconds later, Jaejoong placed the drink in front of Changmin, who looked damn good by the way. The law student was wearing a simple grey shirt with words ‘Be Courteous to Criminals!’ on it, topped with a black jacket and dark jeans. Jaejoong very nearly licked his lips. He couldn’t look away as Changmin was about to take a sip of his whisky when suddenly the student cursed out loud and spluttered his whisky all over the place.
“What, what, what?” Jaejoong asked in panic. He watched as Changmin coughed violently as the whisky went down to the wrong pipe. Urgh, he could’ve just imagined how painful it must be. Those drinks were quite strong and Changmin’s windpipe must be burning right now.
“T…that,” said Changmin between gasped breaths. Jaejoong frowned. He followed the other’s line of vision and whoa, Professor Kim had his ass displayed for the whole bar to see. The man was trying to shoot the eight ball to the upper left slot and he bended on the table. Jaejoong’s mouth watered and he gulped. Damn that ass. Such round, plump cheek butts. No wonder Changmin nearly spitted out his whisky like that.
Then suddenly Jaejoong remembered that Changmin was taking a Japanese literature as his minor. He must have recognized Professor Kim and was surprised to see him in the bar. Jaejoong was about to ask something to confirm that, when he recognized the look on Changmin’s eyes when the man wasn’t coughing anymore. A look of want, with a hint of pain. The look in people’s eyes when they saw something they like but couldn’t have.
Oh.
This must be the reason that Changmin didn’t want Jonghyun to say the other day. Changmin must’ve liked Professor Kim. Ooh boy, the forbidden professor student relationship. Jaejoong wanted to giggle at the thought. They needed something to push the relationship. One of them had to make the move, either they wait until Changmin graduate, or Professor Kim must quit his job as a professor.
…..Should Jaejoong arrest Professor Kim on the ground of accosting a minor?
Oh wait. Changmin was already an adult so it wasn’t the way out. Jaejoong sighed heavily. Well, looked like he just needed to wait and hopefully things would unravel soon. Who would’ve thought an undercover mission would turn out to be a drama like this? At least it wasn’t happening to him.
-End of Chapter Four-
Author’s Note: Seriously, my Jaejoong is the stupidest cop ever. Lmao! And yeah, karma is a bitch Jae. It’s gonna bite your ass real soon.
