Prologue
By: Sharl
Jaejoong stared in aghast at the announcement board. Who the fuck was this Lee Sungmin and why did he get the promotion instead of Jaejoong? Jaejoong was the one who had worked his ass off. He worked overtime, doing everything yet asking for little in return. He never complained even when he got shitty assignments like deskwork instead of kick-ass actions in the field. And let’s not get started on the two weeks undercover missions where he lived from donuts and coffee in the crappy diner two blocks away.
So why didn’t he get promoted? Why, instead of being promoted, he was being demoted?
His inspector, knew that Jaejoong wanted the promotion more than anything else. He had been vying for the job since two years ago and everybody in the police headquarters knows it. Even the cleaning lady knows about it too!
Growling, Jaejoong stared at the name again. Lee Sungmin, Lee Sungmin… It didn’t ring a bell. Who the fuck was he? Hell, whoever the fuck he was, Lee Sungmin would wish he wasn’t born because Jaejoong would unleash all fury in hell to him.
“Hey Jae! Inspector is looking for you!”
Jaejoong whirled around and stared at his fellow cop, Kim Hyunjoong. Did he just say that inspector was looking for Jaejoong? Oh, maybe the inspector had already regretted his decision for choosing the anonymous Lee Sungmin instead of the admirable Kim Jaejoong? Maybe he’d say that he made a mistake and wanted to apologize personally to jaejoong? With renewed eagerness, Jaejoong made his way to the inspector’s office.
He stopped in front of an imposing double door. Inspector Park Yoochun had been an inspector in Texas Police Headquarters since six months ago. Considered quite young for such a high caliber position, he refused to be intimidated by his subordinates and direct reports (Jaejoong included), and led them with iron fist instead. Two weeks after his coming, everybody had never dared coming late again, even if it’s only thirty seconds late.
You’d better call in sick and waste your precious hard-earned sick leave, because you did not want to piss Inspector Park Yoochun off.
Usually being called by the inspector would make Jaejoong sweat and uncomfortable. He might even be puking right now, but somehow this time was different. He could feel it in his guts. Something was not right. That announcement was not right. Who the fuck was Lee Sungmin anyway?
With more confident than he usually felt, he knocked on the door. “Inspector Park, this is Kim Jaejoong.”
“Come in,” came the Inspector’s deep voice. Few days after his arrival, plenty of female cops and surprisingly many male gay cops (Jaejoong included) would melt whenever they heard that voice. Inspector Park Yoochun had an amazingly deep voice, it was husky and sexy and masculine. But it didn’t sound as good when he stared you down and spoke with the same voice, uttering polite yet very insulting words.
“Ah, Kim Jaejoong, just the man I want to see.”
Jaejoong tried to smile, but he was too happy right now he couldn’t concentrate at all. His mind had already calculated the extra paycheck he could earn and what to do with them (shopping of course, what else?). There was this new boots at Sacks that he wanted, and maybe a new coat? His shirts needed some makeover too, and few of his jeans were already too loose because his new diet workout plan worked tremendously well.
“I need you to go to another undercover mission.”
Jaejoong blinked. “Wait. What?”
“Have you lost your limited ability to hear things, sergeant?” There it was again, the polite yet insulting words Inspector Park Yoochun so utterly loved, “I said you will go to another undercover mission. This one is a one year long maximum, depends on how soon you can solve the case.”
Without waiting for Jaejoong’s answer, the inspector continued, “We have new information regarding the massive drug-traffic network that we’ve been working on lately, I’m sure you’re familiar with the case? If you’re not then you’re more foolish than I imagine. What about-“
“I’m familiar with the case, thank you very much,” Jaejoong cut his boss.
Park Yoochun didn’t even bat an eyelash. “As what I’ve thought, this network uses a college as its main operative base. And not just any college too, the most expensive one in the State: the Royal St. Peter de Lucia University. You will be an exchange student there, majoring in Economy. All the details will be given to you tomorrow, 0800. I expect a report every week, just email them to Lee Sungmin and he’ll send it to me.”
Jaejoong felt his eyebrow twitched. “Lee Sungmin?”
“It’s me,” said a guy who sat on a sofa that Jaejoong hadn’t noticed until now. Other than the usual police uniform, Lee Sungmin was wearing a pink bandana, pink scarf, pink nail polish and pink shoes. He also had a bunny, a real bunny on his hand.
So. Jaejoong lost his promotion to a pink loving, bunny coddling feminine man? Well, shit. And now he had to do a shitty undercover job in a rich brat’s college? Can somebody just kill him now please?
