THE EYE
Even in ancient Egypt, the
word Maa meant to
see. Sweet honor
too soon turned curse.
Medusa's daughter. Lady of
slaughter. See you
later, Father
would mutter as
he left for a night of lust. And
under Ma's breath
always, Not if
I see you first.
THE SKIN
Why are you smiling? You died weeks
ago. All, at
least, that can be
seen of you. Coat
of many colors, you were soul's
first clothing. Chain
mail against a
warring world. You
are sloughing as we speak. Sweet lips,
forehead, chin, and
blushing cheek. Dust
beneath our feet.
JOINT AND BONE
Sweet temperomandibular,
odd song of our
creaking jaws, you
gambol off the
doctor's tongue like a game of chance.
Oh, beautiful
epiphesus,
in the final
dare, one thing's for sure. We'll go first.
You next, and all
your comely names.
And then our own.
