001; video/action for New Bark Town

Feb 22, 2011 16:24

[The video feed begins with a patch of frost covered grass. In this patch of grass you can see a larvitar, locked in a fierce wrestling match with what appears to be a blue beanie. A few seconds of this before Squalo gets bored and speaks up. He sounds bored, annoyed and exasperated.]

Voooi, this is fucking ridiculous!

[Fran's been watching for a while, just staring at the conversation between Boss and the loud mouthed shark. Yeah, Boss trying to act all cool with names. No. Fran remembers when he named both of his Pokémon 'Trash' right off the bat. Not cool at all. He'd like to think that he was the good influence when it comes to names. Even though he really wasn't. But he'll say otherwise.

Of course, he wouldn't pass this up. Even with the look his Alakazam is giving him out of the corner of his eye, he still turns the video feed on. Why can't he have a Pokémon who supports his random hobbies instead of giving him that disapproval crap?]

Ah. Looks like Boss already gave you the run down on things. Okay. Well, there's not much to say then. Kinda surprised Boss bothered with you though. Cause, you know. The tiny thing.

[He blinks, tilting his head to the side in a fake thoughtful manner.]

So if I'm older than you, that means I'm more experienced. You should listen to me.

[He can dream dammit.]

So you must be Fran.

[Squalo narrows his eyes and eventually sneers.]

I don't actually give a flying fuck whether you're older than me.

[Well, it was worth a shot. Not really. But all the same.]

Yeah, I know. You've always been kind of really grouchy. Didn't expect much.

[He ponders something for a brief moment, but no. That can be saved for someone else. He actually kind of doesn't mind Squalo. Seeing as how the man was what stood between him and getting murdered by Bel half the time.]

Okay then. Boss made the distance sound kind of ridiculous by the way. Violet City actually isn't that far from you. We've just been staying here for a while to train. Boss didn't want to leave until we get our badges.

[Ignoring that first remark AWESOME finally someone explains shit to him. ...that's not relief on his face when Fran mentions it's not that far, by the way. Totally isn't.]

What's the deal with the badges?

The Pokémon League of course. There's eight gyms spread out, and only the best trainers go out and collect all of the badges to prove they're better than everyone else. Once they get all eight of them they can take on the Elite Four at the Pokémon League and try to become a Pokémon champion.

[Fran's good for information, if anything. Only reason Xanxus puts up with his bullshit and attitude.]

So how many have you got so far?

[It's all well, since Squalo wants information right now. Figures why Xanxus would leave all the talking to this guy.]

None. We haven't been here long enough. Violet City is the first city you run into that has a gym in it. We've been here training since we arrived. But I don't think you have to get the badges in order. You can get any of them at any time. So I guess if you wanted to follow Boss around you'd have to skip Violet Gym and come back to it later on.

Nah. I hate leaving things unfinished, I'll get the badge when I'm there. Besides, it's a good way to gauge how strong my pokémon are, and there's no point in catching up when I'd only slow things down.

Ah. Guess that means I'm still stuck with him then. Okay, suit yourself. In any case then, you might not want to bother being in a hurry to catch up to us. You could get here in under two weeks, but that would be with only spending a night or two in the first town. But you may as well spend a week there to get money. You'll probably need it.

[Headtilt.] What makes you say that?

Because in case you didn't notice, you don't get much money to start with. And while it only takes a couple days to get from your point to the first city, from there to Violet City takes at least a week or more. You'd probably want to buy some food and camping supplies. But look at it this way. At least you don't have to make the trip through ridiculous amounts of snow like we did. That kinda sucked.

If we're lucky it won't snow again. Fuck, it was summer in Italy when I left. I'll count my blessings, I guess, seeing as I don't have a live heater to keep me company. [Like some people do, apparently. That Charmander looks even better right now.]

Yeah. We got lucky. A fire pokémon found me, and I kept her. I think she was an orphan or something and they evolved her too young. She won't fight and was only good for a walking heater. I kinda got tired of sharing her though so I got Boss his own fire pokémon egg when we got to Violet.

And now he's got a clingy orange lizard.

So, what different types of pokémon are there?

Ah. That's a tough question. It's actually all pretty complicated. See, there's the the elemental types like fire, water, electricity, ground, grass and ice. But then there's the other types like flying, normal, fighting, psychic, poison, bug, dark, steel, dragon, rock and ghost. And all the types have weaknesses and strengths against certain other types. Some of them are kind of obvious. Others not so much.

Steel type sounds cool.

[Yes, actually, he did digest all that info that quickly. Hey, it's gonna be important for what's essentially survival, isn't it?]

So what've you got?
