Is it cynical of me to suspect that the carrots I got at the farmers' market were sold with their earth still on to prevent anyone noticing the carrot-root-fly holes, given that most of the other veg on the stall were a bit cleaner?

(I am still eating the carrots. Cutting out bad bits in veg is what God gave us small sharp knives for.)
