This is wasn't quite McCaffrey-level candy floss but it's certainly not a deep book. I found this retelling of the Illiad pretty workmanlike, although not in a bad way. Clarke has managed to just tell the story without too much messing about and provides both human explanations for the more 'mythic' sections of the tale, which is something I liked enough to keep an eye out for a copy of the sequel. I may even give his retelling of Parsifal a try as well.
