25 - Music - Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
I'm one of those writers who needs the quiet. That doesn't mean my stories don't have soundtracks, though, or that I don't listen to music to set a certain mood for my fics. I just don't actually listen to it while I'm writing. Often times, I'll create a playlist on my iPod that I can listen to in the car. (See the aforementioned "
I act out my scenes while I'm driving" post!) While the music is playing, I'll "talk out" the scene a few times and see if I feel the way I think the story should make me feel.
I also try to match my music with the fandom that I'm writing for at the time. Megamind, my current project, for instance, has a lot of hard rock and classic metal, so I try to stick to that genre and keep it in my head - almost like an underscoring - while I'm working.
Some of my stories have been directly inspired by songs as well.
Sins of the Father was directly inspired by both a piece of fanart and the lyrics to a song. While I'm not a big fan of actual songfics, I do find a lot of inspiration in music - even though it needs to be turned off for me to write!
