Only in the last few minutes did I see what was actually happening there. Holy . . . whoa.
It was like a horror story around the campfire . . . or The Monkey's Paw. Way to go, Lost; you certainly haven't lost your touch when it comes to shock value.
And here I thought the episode was going to be miss-able, since the main focus was a pair of red shirts guest characters. Instead we get Unwittingly Buried Alive! (By HURLEY of all people! As well as some of the more "innocent" people around camp.) Eep!
And chalk another mark in the column of "people who die during their own flashback episode."
Whoa.
ETA: Other observations included:
- It was neat how they sort of blended the flashbacks into scenes we had already seen happen -- just from different angles. Very cool.
- Boone and Shannon! Arzt and Ethan!
- I showed how the Nikki/Paulo tagalong into the Pearl hatch was more than just a lame . . . well, tagalong.
- I liked that Charlie confessed what he did to Sun. She may not forgive him right away, but I'm glad it was done.
- Speaking of Sun, I liked the confrontation between her and Sawyer. She can be pretty feisty (and cleverly sarcastic) when she wants to be. :)
