Tis the season to be writing.....
That time of year is nearly upon us.... the silly season. Time for merriment, family and friends, decorations, gifts and feasts. It's also the season of Holiday Fic, and it's time to get writing.
Many fic challenge communities hold holiday focused challenges this time of year, and there are also dedicated holiday themed communities. They're a great way to get involved in your fandom and give some holiday cheer to your flist. There are hundreds of communities out there offering challenges, gift exchanges, or just a place to post your holiday themed stories - and no doubt there's one for you. Alternatively, there are multi-fandom fic exchange communities too.
The great thing about gift exchanges is you never know what assignment you might get. Writing to someone else's specifications stretches your boundaries and challenges you as a writer. And you also get a lovely surprise at the end, when you get to "open" your gift. It's very rewarding, and it can open your writing up to a wider audience. If you want to participate in one, you'd better be quick as sign ups on many are over and others are about to close soon.
