My fandom is LotR/The Hobbit, basically book-verse, though I do include some movie-verse elements from time to time. I read in other fandoms, but except for a foray into another fandom for the Yuletide Exchange, LotR is the only one I write in.

I did once have some published non-fiction, and would not mind doing that again.

Although I was interested in my teen years in writing original published fic, I have completely lost interest in that now, and am enjoying myself immensely with just fanfic. I find it very gratifying and creatively fulfilling in a way that I did not find original fic to be.

You know, I remembered LOTR about five seconds after I posted the poll, but I'm sure that I didn't get all the fandoms by a long shot.

I like that, that you find it gratifying doing what you are doing. Really, that is what matters.

Well, LotR is not as "hot" a fandom as it was when the movies were still coming out.

I find fanfic to be very satisfying creatively, in a way that my other hobbies (also creative) are not. I am playing in the pool with other like-minded people--most creative hobbies are solitary: needlework, calligraphy, etc. I can share my finished product. But only with fanfic can I share the process, both in what others have to give me and in what I have to give to others. And we speak the same "language".

It *is* very gratifying!

I love the interaction that you can get with fandom. I don't think that it exists quite like it in any other kind of writing. Even with writing original, I have a small critique group to take a look at what I've produced, chapter by chapter. It really helps me not drag my ass.

My fandoms are HP and various anime fandoms - Prince of Tennis, Hikaru no Go, Hunter x Hunter - and I both write and read.

Although I do write some original fiction, I am honest enough to say I'm not briliant at it and never will be. I write fanfic because I already have characters there that I love and I enjoy 'playing' with them.

I didn't click 'multifandom' because I'm not really, although I have read and enjoyed stories in other fandoms I don't actively participate. I have also written stories in another fandom (BBM) but my heart wasn't in it as much as QaF and I can't imagine now writing in any other fandom. Of course that could change!

I think that if you know yourself, your niche, that can be a comfortable platform to do what you want. I find it actually quite difficult (at the moment) to shift gears.

I'm mostly involved with small fandoms, like Ironside, Dungeons and Dragons Cartoon and Agatha Christie's Poirot. But I occasionally write Doctor Who and Star War, just for a change.

Small fandoms are great. Our next speaker also dabbles in one as well as one of the biggies.

The fandoms I write besides Harry Potter and BtVS/AtS are Temeraire, Vorkosigan, Chalion, and Black Jewels. Once I get caught up to canon, I foresee writing Doctor Who as well.

Someday, I'd like to write original fiction. Right now, with school, though, I'm lucky to find time to write at all. :-)
