Hi

Well, it finally happened. I was wondering how long until I overslept. I got a call at 10pm last night, when I was supposed to be clocking in. It was Matt who seemed surprised I even answered, so I belted out "sorry, I overslept. I'll be there as soon as possible." He seemed stunned for a second and then said "ok" and I hung up and started to get ready. I got in 35 minutes late, but it didn't seem to be any sort of big deal. I think he was just happy I showed up at all, since two other people were no shows. I felt kinda bad, but c'est la vie. It happens. First time in three months, I think that's pretty damn good. :)

Towards the end of the night, Matt pushed the assistant manager position on me again. While I was putting shit on sale up on the ad wall in the back, he was nearby and said "you sure you don't wanna make more money? Mo' money, mo' problems." His attempt at being light-hearted pretty much summed up entirely and concisely why I don't want the position. I said "I think I'll pass. Thanks for the offer, though."

Night stock is sorta falling apart right now. Since I started, several good employees have left for various reasons. We have had a good crew for the past month or two. But, a lot of shit has happened quickly. Kirk has gone to days, and John (another of the key workers) may be following him. Ed has been missing a lot of nights lately, which doesn't bode well for him and a continuing employment status, and Jeff has asked to be cut to 4 days and has been mentioning giving his two weeks as soon as he gets a car and is gonna go back to building houses.

I feel honored that Matt pushed the position on me again, which means that he trusts my abilities and feels that I can get the job done. But, really, it's so not worth it. Maybe if I was going to kick it back in Omaha for a while and had no real ambition other than kicking back and settling down, or if I was really hot on the idea of wearing a white instead of a blue shirt. But, an extra $4/hr for the monsterous tons of shit that gets shoved at you. Fuck that.

Plus, I'm kinda confused because Mike was being trained for the position. Hell, Mike has even been in charge on two nights this week. So, I thought it was all locked and loaded. Gotta talk to Mike next time I see him.

But, there is hope. There was a new guy that started last week, and Nicole mentioned that there are some more new hires starting next week. Unfortunately for them, but fortunately for me, when the woman who works the camera/video department overnight goes on maternity leave, Nicole will take her position, and she's pushing for me to take hers, 'cause she knows I'm probably the only person on night stock that can actually do the front well. So, that would mean 5 nights a week at the cash registers. Hell, next week I have 4 out of 5 nights up there 'cause Nicole is taking a couple days off. So, I won't be doin' stock, and I definitely pull my weight there.

One last thing before I go have breakfast with the family; I've gotten comfortable using the electric jack, though I had it taken away from me this week by John when I almost ran a customer over. Matt has made the comment that he wants to train me use the high lift, which is an electric jack in the back that lifts its forks up to get palettes up to 20 ft off the ground. John is natorious for breaking lots of shit when using it, so as long as I can do it without constantly dropping glass jars from 15 ft up, I'll be a star player for that, as well. 'Cause I rock at everything I do. Except for relationships. And managing money. And handling stress and addictions. Actually, I suck pretty hard at a lot of things.

But I still rule.
