So, I've been thinking a lot about my "dream bedroom". You know, how I would decorate the bedroom if I had free reign (and lots of money). I've decided to go 'head and put together Alan's Dream Bedroom ...
Bed
Since someone mentioned platform beds to me, I've really wanted to get one. But not any ol' platform bed. A specific one that I've gotten in my mind. I looked around and all the beds weren't what I was thinking ... but I found one that surpasses what I want ... though in surpassing what I want, the price tag seems to have jumped up.
Stealth Platform Bed - $1,099.00
To go with my new, pretty bed, I'd also like some tatami floor mats, probably two of 'em to go on each side of the bed.
Tatami Woven Straw Floor Mat - $195.00
Dresser
Now, I like my dresser. It was exactly what I wanted ... at the time. But, since I'm making my dream bedroom, all the furniture and decorations are changing, and money isn't an issue. So, let's go 'head and change the dresser, too. I want something to go with my new bad-ass bed. So, how 'bout a wooden dresser.
Basic 2 Wide Dresser (JO) - $879.00
Wardrobe
I've never had a wardrobe before, nor do I particularly need one, but this one just looked too cool not to have. Yeah, it's pricey for a pretty piece of furniture, but it's my dream bedroom, and I can dream all that I want.
Transit Mirrored Wardrobe Cabinet - $989.00
TV Stand
Now, I am a media junky, so there absolutely, positively has to be a TV in the bedroom. But, I think an actual TV stand would be in order instead of just putting it on my dresser.
Fasil Wood Entertainment Center - $179.99
Accessories
But the heart of my dream bedroom comes in the accessorizing. I've always wanted to have a wooden and Japanese influenced style for my bedroom, because that's always just been a comfortable style for me. And, I'd want my bedroom to feel overly comfortable.
First, I want a Japanese-style screen to sit in a corner. I don't really need a screen, but they add a certain level of class and style to a room that I would be remiss if I didn't have. Well, actually, it could be used to hide the TV when its not in use.
Kyoto Wood & Paper 3 Panel Screen - $69.00
I would also like a nice, comfortable chair in my room. Since I'm making it a sort of sanctuary, I'd want a comfortable place to sit back and read the latest issue of Wired or Popular Science or Entertainment weekly. Or, just kick back and watch some Japanese horror movies. This chair would just need a matching ottoman.
Lino Lounge Chair - $99.00
For lighting, there are two lamps I'm interested in. One, to sit on the floor and light the room, and another for a table or dresser when I'm in bed or in the chair.
Floor Lamp - Rice Paper $39.99
Koramu Table Lamp - $69.95
For wall decoration, I want to have a combination of Japanese-style artwork and probably Japanese movie posters, like for Battle Royale and Seven Samurai or something (in wooden frames).
Kanji Plaque - $29.99
For relaxing atmosphere, I would like things that make soothing sounds so I could chill back in the chair, read a magazine or book, and have some noise in the background not a radio or TV to calm me.
Serenity Chimes - $79.95
Now if price were truly no option, I would go for the
Nojoqui Lightweight Triple Waterfall Fountain - $7,999.00, but that requires too much of a dream, and my dreamscape can't handle it. So, I'll tone it down
Kazari Fountain - $149.95
That's it for now. Of course other little things would be added to the fray like candles and wall hangings. But, I don't feel like finding every little thing I'd throw into the room. Now, I know I'm not Japanese, and I'm co-opting the culture for my own pleasure, but there has always been something about Japanese culture and style that has been attractive for me. And I feel the bedroom is the perfect place to explore this. Of course, my kick-ass desk would no longer fit the motif of the room, so I guess I'd have to move it out of the bedroom and into somewhere else (like if we get an apartment that has a computer room) ... but then again, it's my dream, and in my dream my computers have their own room.
Total Cost of Alan's Dream Bedroom: $3,536.99
I'm currently taking donations for the Get Alan His Dream Bedroom Fund, you can make checks out to Alan Gerow and send them to me. If everybody in my friends list sent me $35, I'd have my dream bedroom in no time. Think about that.
ps: while I'm at it, I might as well throw in a pair of getas to walk around my snazzy new room in.
Men's Geta - $67.79
