THIS IS WHY I DON'T WRITE FIC

AU-ish drabble, based on the idea that Devit doesn't arrive before Jasdero gives birth. Warnings for angst, typos, and generally awkard writings.

Birth hadn't been easy on Jasdero. It had been a long, drawn out, painful process and she hadn't stopped crying since. Even in her sleep, she sobbed. Nothing could comfort her, and Tyki was barely able to get her to even eat. She was miserable, and the child suffered for it a little. It had a child-like mother that had to be reminded to feed it and couldn't be trusted to bathe it, and showed no joy at it's existence at all. Understandably, that made for a very fussy child, and it's crying made her's all the louder.

She didn't hate it, though. That was far from the issue. It was part of her other half, the truest show of their bonds. So she hated herself for being so sad, for not caring for it better. And she clung to the tiny, sickly looking child, as if simply holding onto was good enough. Although it wasn't. Almost didn't count, bonds was broken and things just couldn't be made right again this way. She tried, but her tries just weren't good enough. She couldn't get past the pain, and the child couldn't distract her from the sorrow.

But she wasn't alone. Even if everything seemed hopeless, he was there. Watching from a distance at first, he wasn't going to butt into her affairs. But it didn't seem like anyone else was all that interested in stepping up, so he was going to do what they weren't. He'd be a good big brother, and he'd make things right for her as much as he could. Even if he wasn't sure how to do it. How did you heal a wound when half of the flesh was missing? You can't stitch something together if only one side is there.

He finally sighed to himself, and stepped out of the dark corner he had been lurking in and into the pale lamplight of her room. He checked her, sleeping again. He wasn't going to bother waking her up, it wouldn't help the crying at all. So he adjusted the child a little, trying to calm it by rubbing it's back. And once it had ceased it's crying, he tucked them both in and hoped that her sobbing would finally cease as well.

It wasn't much of a start to fixing things. But until Devit arrived, it'd have to do.
