Jeepers, for the past week, with the exception of last Friday night's trip to Leesburg, Stephen and I have been total hermits. Work, jammies, couch, bed. Rinse and repeat. I've been sick, then he got sick, now we're both on the mend but not feeling the outside world just yet. Unless you count a trip to the grocery store. Meh. I'm itching to do something now. I took my last antibiotic this morning, and I haven't needed the mucinex in two days. HOORAY. I did, however, indulge in some nyquil the past two nights, and boy did I sleep fantabulously.
Nothing too interesting is happening this week, apart from work. Saturday we're going to take a day trip with my mom to Monticello. I've always wanted to visit Mr. Jefferson's beloved home, and I can't wait to see it in the autumn - it's going to be gorgeous.
Things I've been reading/watching/buying lately:
1.
The LUSH Happy Pill Bath Bomb. I spent over an hour lounging in the tub with this yesterday, finishing my trashy Sidney Sheldon book. It had a nice citrus scent, but it didn't last long, and it wasn't as skin-softening as other bath bombs I've tried. Decent, but not my favorite.
2. The Best Laid Plans by Sidney Sheldon - I got this from someone at work; they were getting rid of a bunch of old books and I grabbed this one and a couple of Patricia Cornwell titles. I've never read one of Sheldon's books before, and was a bit surprised at the cheesy dialogue and bad Lifetime movie-type story. Then again, I had no knowledge of him, besides the name, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised. Anyway, needless to say, it was a fun, trashy, read-in-the-bubble-bath kind of book. A revenge story with a twist of an ending. I raised my eyebrows in shock! Not something I'd read again or really put on high, but it was entertaining.
3. The Duchess by Amanda Foreman - Like her descendent, Princess Diana, Georgiana Spencer was a popular celebrity among the royals/aristocrats of her day. She was a fashionista, had affairs (like all the other men & women in that circle), and was heavily involved in her cause of choice (promoting the Whig party candidates). This biography was fascinating, apart from the sections that focused on the politics of the late 1700s (it would go on and on and lose me). The Duchess of Devonshire lived an incredible life. I'd suggest you check out this book over the movie version, as it glazes over many things and mainly sticks to all the crap she put up with from her husband, The Duke. The bio is much more interesting. I also liked that the author included so many of Georgiana's letters; you hear her own voice.
4. Glee - this show is one of the best on tv right now. If you haven't seen it yet, go on Hulu and watch the Preggers episode. That one is absolutely brilliant. This scene is hilarious and heartwarming:

5. Modern Family - if Glee's the best show, this is the second best. It takes the mockumentary style of The Office, and makes the family sitcom something new and awesome. I laugh harder at this show than I do at 30 Rock. Last week's episode ended with the teenage daughter's boyfriend singing the song he wrote for her in front of the whole family, and I had tears coming out of my eyes. The end credits were cute too, because even though the song was creepy, they couldn't get it out of their heads and were singing it. Look, there's even a video for it!
