Chapter 8
Meisa looked over her cubicle and saw Sho following one of the women she works with to the copy room. He had closed the door, but Meisa knew what was going on in there. She narrowed her eyes at the closed door. It had been two weeks since that day at the hotel. He had never come after her since then. In fact, he made sure they were never alone together. He had lost interest and it was not really a surprise. He got what he wanted. He had conquered her. Meisa's stomach reflexively churned at that thought, but she suppressed the memory in the back of her mind.
She sank back down, slouching lightly on her chair. Her line rang, so she picked up the phone.
“Sakurai Holdings,” she automatically said. “How may I help you?”
“Hi, is Meisa Kuroki there?” a man's voice she didn't recognize said.
“Yes, this is she.”
“I knew it!” the man said excitedly. “You are the one that kept calling. This is Satoshi Ohno from Ohba Constructions. I'm Kazu-kun's boss.”
Meisa winced, cursing to herself.
“Well, I'm calling to let you know that Kazu quit. Today is his last day. He's going back to Kobe either tonight or tomorrow.” A voice interrupted him on his end. Meisa barely heard them arguing about something. “Uh, sorry about that,” Ohno's voice came back to address her. “Um, you're on speaker phone.”
“Why?”
“Hi, Meisa-chan” a friendly, cheerful voice greeted, her question turned to deaf ear. “I'm Masaki Aiba, Kazu's other boss. We heard so much about you.”
“Yeah, Kazu talks about you all the time,” another voice said. “He told me about the first time you two kissed.”
“Maru, don't tell her that,” Aiba exclaimed. “She'll get embarrassed.”
“No, it was the time when they were in kindergarten,” the voice, who she now identified as Maru, said. “Kazu came up to her and kissed her on the lips. She cried and cried.”
“I was afraid I got cooties from him,” she piped up, giggling. “Oh, Kazu was so remorseful about it. He gave me his portion during snack time as a peace offering.” The men on the other end laughed.
“What's going on?” Meisa nearly gasped when she heard Kazu's voice.
“Just, you know, talking,” Ohno said.
“Oh okay.” There a paused before he added, “I already washed the uniform, so it's ready for the next guy. I better get going.”
“You're leaving tonight?” Aiba asked.
“I still have to pack. Maybe tomorrow morning.”
“You should go see Meisa before you go,” Maru said. Meisa could only hear a mumbled reply.
“Nah, I'm sure she'd want to see you,” Aiba said. “If Meisa was here right now, what would you tell her?”
“That I love her.” Kazu didn't even hesitate. Meisa covered her mouth from sobbing out loud. “But… she doesn't want to have anything to do with me anymore, so...” Kazu cleared his throat. “Well, thank you all very much. It's been great working with you in this short time. I'm off.” There was a sound of shuffling and greetings of farewell. Meisa slowly returned the receiver on the base. She hoped that Kazu would see her before he leaves. She should've told him she forgave him. It might be too late now.
She sprung up from her chair, startling the other workers around her. Meisa grabbed her things and walked out of the office.
“Meisa, it's not time to go home yet!” someone called out, but she was gone.
###
Meisa arrived at her house at the usual time. She dragged herself in and sunk on the couch, discouraged. She had gone to the ramen shop to ask the owner if he knew where Kazu lived. The owner told her in which apartment complex Kazu lived nearby. However, no one answered the door. She scribbled a note on a Post-It with a hope that Kazu would see it in time.
She had lain there for a long time until the doorbell rang, breaking her reverie. She got up excitedly, thinking that Kazu saw the note after all! She flung open the door with a big smile which fell flat when she saw the man standing on the front stoop.
“Surprise,” Sho said in a singsong voice, a smirk on his face. He was clearly amused of catching her off guard.
“H-how do you know where I live?” Meisa stammered while gripping the door knob until her knuckles turned white.
“I had you followed.”
“Followed?”
“You left early so I asked someone to follow you to see where you were going.”
“Well, thank you for your concern. As you can see, I'm fine, so you can go.” She rushed the words and quickly pulled the door to close it, but Sho caught the edge of the door and easily pried it wider. His eyes hooded darkly as he stepped over the threshold. Meisa backed up slowly.
“What do you want?” she said, hoping her voice didn't betray her fear.
“Well, I want another round with you.” His voice lowered as he slowly walked to her.
“No.”
“No?” Before she could escape, Sho had grabbed hold of her and pushed her backwards on the couch. He pinned her down as Meisa struggled under his body.
“Stop it! Stop it!” She slapped him hard, but Sho grabbed her wrists in his one hand while the other snaked its way between her thighs. He lowered his face to kiss her on the lips but Meisa moved her head side to side to avoid it.
“What the-” Sho exclaimed. In her struggle she didn't realize that someone grabbed Sho off of her and was being pushed away. A loud thud could be heard. When she looked up, she saw him sunken on the floor in front of the bookcase surrounded by books that obviously fell out when he was pushed against it. Kazu panted before pulling him up again roughly and punched him in the face. Sho staggered backwards, but didn't fall.
“Who the fuck are you?” Sho exclaimed, wiping blood from his nose.
“Lay a hand on her again and I swear I'll break every single bone in your body.”
Sho lunged at him, knocking him hard on the coffee table. Kazu kneed him in the groin. Sho exclaimed in pain, grabbing his balls reflexively, his mouth gaping open in shock. Kazu took the opportunity to push him off him. He was about to give Sho another blow to the face, when Meisa grabbed his hand.
“No, enough,” she pleaded at him. When she turned to look at Sho she told him with a stern voice: “Leave.”
Sho pulled himself up and glared at Kazu. “Who the fuck is this guy?”
“My fiancé.” Meisa snapped. Sho and Kazu looked at her, surprised.
“Well, you better thank your fiancé for getting you fired.” Sho stomped out the door, wiping his face as he left. Meisa went to slam the door shut behind him and bolted it. Her legs gave out on her and she crumpled on the floor. Kazu hurried to her side, asking if she was alright. She flew her arms around his neck, burying her face in his chest, her body shaking in her cries. Kazu raked his fingers through her hair to soothe her. When she was done crying, she pulled away, leaving a big wet spot on Kazu's shirt.
“I'm sorry,” Kazu said. “I saw your door open and saw you. He wasn't gonna stop, was he?” Meisa shook her head.
“He was your boss?” She nodded.
“Can you stand up?” Kazu pulled her up onto her feet. “Let's go to the kitchen and get you some water.” He had her sit down on one of the dining chairs. With her help in locating things in her kitchen, he got her a glass of water and sat down next to her. She drained the glass. Meisa got up from the table and took out a packet of frozen edamame. She wrapped it with a towel and set the “ice pack” on Kazu's face
“At least to keep it from swelling,” her voice sounded hoarse. Their faces were inches apart. Though the packet was cold, he could feel the heat of her fingers on his face. Taking her free hand in his, he brought it up to his lips and kissed it softly.
Meisa leaned closer until her lips brushed his. He winced when she accidentally touched the cut on his lips. She pulled back apologetically, but Kazu placed his hand behind her head and pulled her back. Her lips were soft and delicate. She felt a warm sensation from the kiss. The packet slid from her hand and plopped on the floor. However, neither seemed to notice as her hands now slowly raked through his hair. She parted her lips allowing his tongue entrance. As their kiss deepened, she moved to straddle him on his lap without breaking their kiss. A moan escaped her lips when she felt the bulge in Kazu's jeans. She hiked up her skirt around her hips when she straddled him. Now it was her underwear and his jeans only that prevented them from connecting completely.
Kazu trailed his kisses down her jaw line and on her neck; his hand sliding under her blouse. He unsnapped her bra, freeing her breasts for him to fondle. Meisa stopped long enough to take off her blouse. Kazu gasped when she sat half-naked on his lap.
“What?” Meisa said, raising an eyebrow.
“What do I do with your boobs again?” Kazu asked with a smile.
“I think you're supposed to suck them,” Meisa replied softly, playing along. Kazu licked her nipple, to tease her. He continued licking until it became hard. He repeated the same thing on the other one.
“My turn,” Meisa breathed out after coming down from the ecstasy of Kazu's touch. She pulled his t-shirt off over his head. “It isn't fair I'm the only one half naked.” She nipped and sucked on his neck as she squeezed and rubbed her fingers on Kazu's nipples. The hardness under his jeans seemed about to rip out of the seams.
Grabbing Meisa's ass to support her, Kazu got up. She automatically wound her legs around his waist, arms flung over his neck as Kazu made his way to where he guessed was her bedroom. They lowered themselves slowly onto her bed. Kazu stopped for a moment to look her in the eyes.
“Meisa, I-”
“Shh.” She put a finger to his lips. She took his hand and placed it between her legs. “See? My panty is soaking wet. I want you in me, Kazu.”
“But-”
“Please.” She moved her hand and unbuttoned his jeans. She slipped her hand inside and stroked his throbbing member. She helped him quickly out of his jeans and boxers, freeing his hard penis. Conversely, he helped her to slip out of her skirt and panty.
Kazu caught her moan in a kiss as he slipped inside her. Meisa pushed her hips up to deepen him in, both moaning and gasping to the rhythm of his thrusts. He completely filled her, each thrust making her dizzy from ecstasy.
“Oh!” Meisa cried out. Kazu pumped harder. He knew she was ready to explode and he was about to go there himself.
“Ready?” Meisa could only nod at his question. They released together and Meisa felt warm liquid flowing out of her. Kazu collapsed on top of her. He placed his head between her breasts. She played with his hair.
After a while of content lying there in each others' warmth, Kazu inched up and kissed her on the lips. He lied back down on the pillow beside her head. Meisa flipped on her side to face him. She trailed a finger down his jaw line, pausing on the mole on his chin. It was her favorite feature on his face. Kazu put an arm behind her to pull her closer. He stroked his finger on her back, trailing abstract patterns.
“I’m leaving for Kobe tomorrow.” he said, breaking the silence of the room. “I'm taking the first train.” He pressed his forehead on hers.
“Didn't you see my note?” she asked. Kazu nodded. “So why are you leaving me?” She bit her lip to keep from crying. “I forgave you already. I love you. Why are you still going away?”
“I don't belong here.”
“Kazu, I'm here. You belong here with me.”
Instead of answering, Kazu kissed her forehead. “Get some sleep, Meisa,” he said, hugging her closer to himself. “You need some rest.”
“Kazu, please stay.” Meisa said before they drifted off to sleep.
###
Meisa woke up and found herself alone on the bed. She sat up and surveyed the room. Kazu's clothes were gone. Naked, she padded to the kitchen and the living room area. There was no sign of Kazu anywhere. Nothing to prove he had been there last night. Making love to him again after all these years made her heart soar. Now, seeing him gone, it hurt. She spotted a note on the table.
Dear Meisa,
I couldn't bear waking you up. You looked so peaceful and angelic sleeping that I didn't want to wake you only to say goodbye. I just don't belong here. I hope you come back home, too. The people who love you live there. Even though I'm far away, remember that I still love you. Aishiteru.
Loving you with all my heart,
Kazu
Meisa wiped the tears flowing down her face. She stood there for a moment when a thought popped into her head. She quickly went to her room and changed.
###
“Ticket to Kobe, please,” Meisa breathed out to the man behind the ticket booth. “Has the first train left yet?”
“You have a minute,” the man said, handing her the ticket and change. She grabbed both and ran to the turnstile. As soon as she cleared it, she hurried to the platform, craning her neck to see if Kazu was inside.
“Is this the train to Kobe?' she asked the conductor, catching her breath.
“It just left a minute ago,” he said. Disappointed, Meisa said a quick thank you and walked to the exit.
“Meisa?” She turned to face the man she thought had left. Kazu was sitting on a bench, his backpack by his feet. He stood up as she walked to him
“What are you doing here?” they asked in unison.
“Thinking,” he said. She raised an eyebrow at him. “I thought about what you said - about belonging with each other.” He stretched out his hand and she took it. They sat on the bench. “I thought about it, and you're right. As long as we belong together, it doesn't matter where we live.” He squeezed her hand, and intertwining their fingers. “Besides, I can't bear living so far from you ever again.”
“I don't want to separate from you either” Meisa said. Kazu kissed her forehead. “Hey, does this mean you're staying?” she asked, a glint of hope in her eyes.
He nodded. “I'm staying.” Meisa smiled and leaned her head on his shoulder.
“By the way, what you said to your boss about me being your fiancé, do you still consider me as your fiancé?”
“I just said that to throw him off... I'm sorry.” She turned to face him and smiled shyly. “We could start over as boyfriend/girlfriend.”
Kazu grabbed his backpack and pulled out a small square box. “How about we skip through all that and pick up where we left off?” He opened the box to reveal a nice engagement ring set into the velveteen holder. “Meisa Kuroki, will you marry me?”
Kazu took the kiss Meisa planted on him as a “yes”. Her lips were still a bit swollen from the night before, but it all just made the kiss more warm, soft, and sweet.
The hustle and bustle of the train station didn't seem to affect them.
They were finally back together at last.

Epilogue A/N: Endings make me nervous. I never know if readers like how it turns out in the end, and if I had delivered it. I have no problems with starting a fic with a bang, but endings is a scary place to be.
BTW, I thought about making a prequel or sequel to this, if I can make it work. I'll have to see it first. If it doesn't work out, I'll scrap the project.
