I feel great. I feel like I made a difference in a person's life. Haji called me yesterday morning and informed me that he had just finished his interview and had not just passed his citizenship interview but answered every question flawlessly.
He'll be sworn in as an American citizen in the Capitol here in Nashville in a few weeks and I plan to attend.
Why am I so proud of him? Because about three months ago I started helping Haji study for his citizenship test and every night after work I would ask him questions. Not only that but I would explain the answers to him and we would discuss freedom and America and American history, none of which he knew originally.
When he called me yesterday and told me the great news, it was awesome. I felt like I had made a difference in a person's life.
Tonight he is treating me to dinner: I really hope it isn't more goat.
