One ball!

Last night, I went to the SoHo Apple Store to see Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello discuss the SWC movie. dream_aloud and st_raoul were supposed to come, too, but Janis hurt her neck, so I ventured out alone.
I left work right after the dress rehearsal was finished, and I arrived downtown at around 7. Every seat in the theatre was already taken, so I stood up front ( Read more... )

Also, I get confused. ::picks her up from the shock of that:: Why does everything say this is a 2005 movie when it's just being released now?

The movie should have been released last year, but Warner Bros. Independent shelved it until ThinkFilms bought it from them. It was filmed in the summer of 2004.

Sorry to butt in, lol... But I think a lot of websites list a 2005 release date for the movie since it premiered at Sundance in 2005.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I didn't know that any festival premieres become the film's official release date. Is that even how it works?

I'm so confused by all this distribution crap. I have nothing to do with it, anyway.

Oh, you might be right. I don't know whether Sundance would count or not... That's what I always assumed, but I could be way off since I really don't know the first thing about film distribution.

I don't think festival premieres count as the real release date. I'll have to ask someone about how this works, because now it's bugging me.

Some of the confusion might really be because the film was supposed to be released in the Spring/Summer of 2005. I mean, that's what everyone thought until WBI decided to be a bunch of bastard people and shelve it. I remember asking Matt Lappin about every other week what the status of the movie was, and him telling me that nothing had changed. It made me quite sad. But now it's finally coming out! YAY!

In a way, I'm sort of glad that ThinkFilm picked it up. I mean, of course it was a terrible blow when Warner kept pushing it back and then dropped it... But ThinkFilm just seems to be doing this right. Warner did practically nothing in terms of publicity, it seemed, whereas TF is all over it.

Oh, I'm SO glad ThinkFilms picked it up. They're going to give it the attention it deserves. Plus, I think "The Aristocrats" really helped their street cred, so the film is going to have some nice buzz before it starts.

My hope is that it turns into the Napoleon Dynamite of the summer, minus the stupid Hot Topic selling out. I think it has the potential to do so, and Amy, Paul, and Stephen deserve to have SWC turn into something big.
