One ball!

Last night, I went to the SoHo Apple Store to see Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello discuss the SWC movie. dream_aloud and st_raoul were supposed to come, too, but Janis hurt her neck, so I ventured out alone.
I left work right after the dress rehearsal was finished, and I arrived downtown at around 7. Every seat in the theatre was already taken, so I stood up front ( Read more... )

This entire post is DELIGHTFUL! I love finally seeing the back of the CD sampler sleeve! I'd seen the front (people who picked them up at BookExpo America are selling them on eBay) but I hadn't seen the back. The picture on the back is FANTASTIC. I hope photos from that shoot are used liberally throughout the book. Amy sent e-mailed me some pics from that shoot a couple months ago, and they're like, just about the best pictures of her. Ever. Someone just sent me a rip of the CD. It's downloading now. I can't wait to listen to it! "I Like You" is going to be the most amazing book ever published.

Ahhhhh! You got a movie poster! So lucky!

I hope Amy resends your calendar! You'll love it. It's super queer. This is what it looks like. I have it hanging in my kitchen, so I can see it every day. Also, it's still on January, because I refuse to rip off the pages, hahaha.

Amy has a crazier memory than I do, and never again will I doubt it's power.

YES! I've noticed this as well. And she'll remember the most random details--like some little thing you told her once six months ago. I love that!

Amy's rabbit Dusty is doing well, but he's overweight and his nails need to be cut, but Amy's "on it!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! I guarantee you she's not "on it" with Dusty's diet. HAHAHA! For a mini-rex, Dusty is not very mini, lol.

When Amy sat down on the stool, she had to make sure her jacket was covering her lap because she forgot to wear panties.

BWAAAAAAHAHAH! That made me laugh out loud!

Ok, sorry this comment was 10 miles long, but your post made me really excited, haha.

Sorry for the lag in replying. I've been so busy!

Amy sent e-mailed me some pics from that shoot a couple months ago, and they're like, just about the best pictures of her.

Amy's such a Hottie McHotpants, and I love it when she does these silly-sexy photoshoots. After all, the funny bone is my favorite erogenous zone.

Ahhhhh! You got a movie poster! So lucky!

I know! I was so excited when I saw they were giving these out. It's only a one-sheet, but it's still better than nothing. I wonder if they're going to give out more at the screening this Friday. If they are, I'll definitely grab one for you.

I hope Amy resends your calendar! You'll love it. It's super queer.

I really hope she resends it. I love her craft projects. She sent me a few of her handicrafts during our correspondence, and I keep all of them in a special box in my room. I always tried to send her equally awesome homemade things, but hers would always kick my ass. The greatest thing she ever gave me, though, was a life-sized crocheted Little Debbie cupcake, (you know the brown ones with the white squiggle on top and the cream in the middle?). She handed it to me on the last night of filming for the SWC movie and it's one of my most treasured possessions.

she'll remember the most random details--like some little thing you told her once six months ago.

Like I said in the post, Amy knew of me before I worked on the SWC movie. My mother had done an FX pilot with her about a year before the film, and my mom told her how I was such a big fan of hers, so Amy signed a picture of her my mom took for continuity of her covered in vomit, ("Annie, I'd throw up over you, love, Amy Sedaris"). Now, that would have been enough, but the next day, Amy comes back to set with a picture of her as Jerri, (the one she give Allen to hang in his locker), again autographed to me, ("Annie, pee on me, love, Jerri Blank/Amy Sedaris"). When my mom gave me this stuff and told me the story, I was totally floored by her generosity. So, my first day on set, I went up to Amy and thanked her for the pictures she gave me over a year ago even though she probably wouldn't remember. BUT I WAS SO WRONG. Not only did she remember autographing the photos, she remembered my name, my mother's name, and exactly what she wrote on the pictures. (That's actually why my poster is signed "Pee on me"- because she remembered yet again what she wrote to me over three years ago).

Anyway, the woman never forgets anything and never forgets a face. I remember once she ran into me at Dean and Deluca about three months after the film was wrapped. I felt a tap on my shoulder, and I turned around to see Amy smiling at me saying "Hi, Annie!" The strangest part was that she was there with her father, and she introduced me to him as well! (That puts me up to five Sedaris family members that I've met.) I was just so shocked that she remembered me, and would stop and say hello when she could have kept walking by.

I guarantee you she's not "on it" with Dusty's diet. HAHAHA! For a mini-rex, Dusty is not very mini, lol.

I know Dusty's a bit of a fattiepants. I can just imagine her feeding him a month's worth of treats in a week as a pet owner who has done the same thing with her cats.

Ok, sorry this comment was 10 miles long, but your post made me really excited, haha.

Don't worry about it! My reply isn't much shorter. I'm so glad you got excited. It's nice to have someone that can relate to this sort of stuff with me. Hey, we should try and get together when you're in the city for the premiere. I think it'd be a lot of fun. When/for how long are you going to be here?

Yes! We should definitely try to meet up in NY. That would be a blast. And you know Tony Lagarto from working on the movie, right? I'm coming up with him, and our friend Jill (slapsomeone on LJ), who's also in touch with Amy. We're coming up next Monday--probably sometime in the afternoon--and then coming back on Thursday. I'm always up for meeting other Amy fanatics. It would be a lot of fun, especially since we'd all have stories about her to swap, haha.

I wonder if they're going to give out more at the screening this Friday. If they are, I'll definitely grab one for you.

Oh, that would be awesome! If they have them, and you think about it, I'd LOVE one! Thanks!

Oh wow, that's amazing how she remembered signing photos for you a year prior... and what she wrote on them! That really is truly astounding when you take into account the number of autographs she signs and all. I've always been really impressed by her memory. The first time I talked to her on the phone was shortly after I adopted by first two rabbits and was still living at home. I was telling Amy how they were chewing everything and my mom was pissed off, because it was stuff like baseboards, wood trim and an antique blanket chest in my room. Six months later, I sent her a batch of homemade snacks for Dusty and a little note saying that I'd adopted another bunny, a mini-rex. So she writes back and her note starts with, "I can't believe you got another rabbit. What did your mother say about that? Weren't you having trouble with the other two chewing everything?" because she'd remembered our phone conversation from six months before.

Also during the first time I spoke with her on the phone, I'd just sent her a photo of my rabbits, and she was trying to figure out what breeds they're a mix of, since all I knew was that they were mixed breed. She said she thought that they might have some rex in them (they don't). So, the first time I met her, about 9 months later, she asked how the rabbits were doing, and I pulled a picture out of my wallet. She goes, "Oh, that's right, I told you I thought they had a little rex mix in." I mean... I barely remembered that! Crazy!

That's so sweet how she introduced you to her father in Dean and Deluca! I've seen a picture of him online, and he looks really short. Is he? Amy and David are both pint-size, so I've always wondered which parent they got that from (or both).

I know Dusty's a bit of a fattiepants. I can just imagine her feeding him a month's worth of treats in a week

No... Try 2-3 months' worth of treats in a couple days. No joke, hahaha. I used to send her Tupperware containers filled with enough snacks to last a few months. The very first time I did this, the snacks contained honey and banana (so, a lot of sugar) and Amy just let Dusty more or less belly up to an all-you-can-eat buffet of them. Well, Dusty ended up getting bloat really bad and ended up with an emergency visit to the animal hospital. I thought Amy would've learned from that, so I continued to send containers of snacks periodically for about another year and a half. Well, last September, I sent Dusty a container of snacks (2-3 months worth) and 2 weeks later, I got an e-mail from Amy asking if I'd send her some more. She'd said that she wanted to put my recipe in her book, so I figured she just wanted more snacks so they could use them in a photo or something... So I sent more, thinking that Dusty would be good on snacks for like... the next SIX months. Well, a few weeks later, in October, Tony, Jill and I were in NYC and Amy invited us over. We walked in and Amy says to me, "Thanks to you, my rabbit's a crack addict!" She told me that Dusty had eaten BOTH containers of treats that I'd sent in September, and that she "even licked them clean." Then she proceeded go back in her bedroom, and came out with the container that I'd mailed the second batch in, and it was, indeed, licked clean. She was like, "See?" HAHAHAHAH! I just remember my jaw dropping, and I kind of gasped... "AMY! YOU CAN'T DO THAT!!!" Oh my God, I laugh so hard whenever I think of her total lack of control with those rabbit snacks.

Oh man, we should totally meet up. And yes, I know Tony. There's a picture of me somewhere on his site from the wrap party. I'd love to see him just so I could give him a disc of photos from the movie set, (I'm having issues sending the files). Maybe on Monday night? I know some good spots around town. From what I've read, you seem to enjoy hookah bars, and I know a couple fun ones. Just IM me and we can work out the details, or if you don't have AIM, I can just give you my cell number. :)

Amy's memory amazes me, mainly because my memory is absolutely INSANE, yet she remembers even more than I do. I think it's just one of those things that adds to how awesome she is, because fans will always remember exact details of their encounters with celebrities, but to have the celebrity actually remember you and what you said? It really makes you feel special.

I've seen a picture of him online, and he looks really short. Is he? Amy and David are both pint-size, so I've always wondered which parent they got that from (or both).

If I recall correctly, Lou is about my height, (5'10.5"), maybe a little shorter. Paul is definitely shorter than me, around David's height. Also, just for the record, Paul is exactly like David describes him in his book.

And HAHAHAHAHAHA at Amy feeding Dusty all those treats! It must be so hard to resist when a bunny gives you the "Can I please have a treat?" face, though. I know I can hardly resist when my cats do it to me, and they aren't nearly half as cute as a bunny is.

This will be fun! I'm excited! I'll IM you this week and we can figure it out. The premiere is Tuesday night (well, I assume it's in the evening), but other than that, we don't have anything set in stone. The hookah actually gave me a bad headache after a while, so I'm not exactly in any rush to smoke again anytime soon, hahaha... But I'm game for whatever. I'm just looking forward to hanging out with another Amy fanatic, lol!

I'm surprised to hear that Lou is an average height. Sharon must've been really petite. I've seen a couple pictures of Paul and he looks EXACTLY how one would imagine him from reading David's books! That's hilarious that he's just like how David describes him to be. I love Amy's imitation of him as well... "I know! I'll mail pot to me, from me! That way they know where to find me if they find it!" HAHA! Does he actually talk with a heavy accent? Who's the 5th Sedaris you've met? Paul's wife, Kathy? I remember reading that she was an extra (prisoner on the bus).

Okay, so no hookah. Can do. Do you like karaoke? I know the awesomest Korean karaoke bar down in K-Town. It's totally zany and weird. I also know some other spots that might be fun. We could always, you know, eat or something. It's all up to you guys and what you want to do. I have the feeling it's going to be fun no matter what.

It's funny, when I met Lou, he was the first Sedaris actually on eye level with me. The others are so short! I mean Amy's teeny next to me, (but then again, she's so slight to begin with). And just because I thought this picture is funny to juxtapose with the other, here's me with Greg Hollimon. I look absolutely sweaty and disgusting in these photos, but the wrap party was about 2000 degrees and I was very drunk.

But, yeah, Paul is just like David describes him. I have a good story to tell you about when I met him when you guys come to the city. (It's a little long to tell here.) And Kathy is the fifth Sedaris I met, but now that I think about it, I also met Paul and Kathy's baby, so does that bring my total up to six? Their baby is adorable. I knit it a hat after the film was wrapped and I stitched a little felt baby rooster to the front. I wonder if it ever actually made it to them...

I've actually never done karaoke (I'm a TERRIBLE singer, so I don't even try, hahahaha) but I think it would be hilarious to watch other people. So seriously, I'm game for whatever, because like you said, I'm sure we'll have fun no matter what we end up doing.

Those are great pictures of you with Amy and Greg! Amy's so teeny tiny. I have a couple pictures from the first time I met her, and I hate it because next to her, I look like a monster. And I'm only 5'5" and average, but she's just sooooooo little!

Oh! I can't wait to hear your story about Paul! I love hearing/reading anything about him. One of my favorite stories is one Amy told during an on-stage interview in San Francisco a couple years ago (you've probably heard this). Their family does draws names to exchange Christmas gifts, and one year Paul got David. So, Paul gave him a stocking that had the N-word written on it, with a fake gun inside. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Awwww, you got to meet Maddy! There was a photo of her in GQ a couple years ago when David's "Baby Einstein" essay was published in it. She was adorable! I know she's in a photo in Amy's book. I can't wait to see.

PS. That's so awesome how she gave you a crotched cupcake. What other handicrafts of hers do you have? Amy's crafts are the BEST, haha. The calendar's the only thing I have, but she sent my friend a couple things when her rabbit died last summer, and they were great.

BTW, one of the best things about that calendar is that it was printed out on photo paper on her inkjet. Hahahahahaha!

I have one of her Land O Lakes hidden boobs cards, some stickers, a postcard, and some other random stuff that I can't remember right now. The cupcake is the biggest thing I own, but she didn't make it. I made her a skirt after the film wrap, and that kind of started the whole exchange. One of my favorite things I did for her is adorning a letter to her with dancing fingerprint bunnies.

I can't wait to see the calendar. I hope hope hope hope hope she resends it. Half of it may be useless by now, but I still want to see it.

Ooooh, that's so cool how you guys sent little presents back and forth! Aside from the calendar, I've gotten 2 boxes of hay (she stuffed garbage bags with hay, boxed it up and mailed it. The first time, she even shipped it UPS and included pinecones and a container of bunny pellets, HAHAHAHA), a pin with a picture of Jerri Blank wearing donkey ears, and she sent a book of Flatpoint High matches, but some fucktard with the postal service sliced open the side of the envelope and stole them.

Oh my God, the calendar is a hoot. Like I said, it was printed out on her inkjet with photo paper, then it's covered in layers of packing tape to give it a hi-gloss finish. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

shappyshaps June 12 2006, 18:22:57 UTC
Oh, I have a bunch of pins, too! The head hair person for the film, Stephen, had dozens of SWC pins made and then gave them out to the cast and crew. People began to use them for bartering because some were cooler than others. Just because I lose pins like crazy, I keep them in this cabinet-thing that was a set piece in Jerri's room. It's so fucking sweet. It's got severed fingers on top, a torched Barbie head, and it came complete with a can of Spam, decks of cards, and a confederate shot glass! Here's a picture of it in Jerri's room.

P.S.- By the way, it's so great to finally be able to show these pics to someone. I've never really gotten an opportunity. :)

Oh my God, that's awesome! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!! I like the big hand in the vase to the left of the cabinet. That's so nasty. That's so cool that you got to keep that stuff.

Yeah, I got the pin like a month after the movie wrapped, so I'm sure that's what it was from.

I LOVE seeing these photos. Feel free to upload any others, haha! Do you have a picture or scan of the photo that Amy signed for you where she's covered in vomit? I'd love to see that one.
