A conversation analysis with Colin and Bradley

For my Linguistics course I had to write an essay analysing a conversation, specifically, an interview. I chose to do this interview with Colin and Bradley. (The Geek Syndicate one from the BFI event.) I'm mainly discussed power dynamics. I must say, it is SO strange to be writing about Colin and Bradley and have it not be a fanfic! My brain kept ( Read more... )

You know what I find most interesting about this? The fact that in my head, I've always felt that Bradley tends to "dominate" more when they're in joint interviews. Clearly that isn't the case any longer, though I wonder what an analysis would look like from one of their earlier interviews. Still... considering how little I know about this topic, it may have always been this way, and I just perceive Bradley speaking slightly more as him being more in control of the conversation.

But anyway...

I have to say I can also appreciate how difficult it must have been to just analyse the conversation and NOT delve into detail about how madly in love they are, LMAO ;). Good work, you! :)

I feel this way, too, except now I'm thinking that it's not so much of him taking control as it is Colin letting him take control (if that makes sense). And when Colin talks, Bradley lets him take control, too. Seems kind of boringly equal to me. :P

I tend to think that the intense admiration on Bradley's part, however you interpret it, accounts for things like letting Colin interrupt him and apologising, rather that Colin actively trying to take control.

Actually, my real thought has been that in the beginning, Colin was a LOT more nervous and shy in interview settings, and I kind of saw it as Bradley taking a bit more control (as allowed by Colin) because he was more comfortable in those sort of situations. And maybe it was slightly protective-ish on Bradley's part, though I certainly think it was a mutual thing on both their parts ( ... )

I agree with you. Bradley is always very confident in interviews and he always speak what he want to say with full force. Colin is really shy during the interview. But whenever Bradley is around him, Colin is SO MUCH MORE relaxed. And personally, I think Colin always let Bradley have the control of interview and be the speaker. Especially, in the ONE SHOW interview, it is very apparant.
But I really adore Bradley's affection to Colin. He always put his attention on Colin whenever Colin is around, like always and forever and nobody ever come in between them. I must say they two REALLY DO have a very special BOND and a fantastic Relationship others won't really understand. Soulmate, maybe. Whatever it is. IT IS VERY VERY SPECIAL.

whee! these are my thoughts exactly.

In general though, I've been noticing that Colin seems more and more relaxed in the newer interviews (SDCC, BFI, etc) than the ones from way back. I've also noticed the trend where he seems much more comfortable speaking out alongside Bradley, even cutting him off playfully, whereas he used to mostly hand the floor over before. And I love it!
