Let's talk about sex

I wanted to have a discussion about sex scenes and pwp: what do you love reading, what don't you like seeing, any kinks you'd love to see more of in the fandom, tips to write better porn etc. Basically anything you want to say about sex re: Arthur/Merlin or Bradley/Colin

My pet peeve is reading sex scenes where Arthur/Bradley is referred to as "the blond" and Merlin/Colin "the brunette".

OMG, yes!!! That is my pet peeve to end all pet peeves. I've been known to scream at the computer screen and stop reading the story, which I know is silly, but it annoys me so much it throws me right out of the story. As you say there is absolutely nothing wrong in using names.

I'm a complete sucker for hurt/comfort too and it's been a long time since I was in a fandom where that's actually been possible (Immortals, Vampires and Vampire Slayers don't need much h/c) and it's been great to come back to it and discover I enjoy it as much as ever.

I like hurt/comfort when the hurt is not too traumatic. When I have to read through a whole lot of pain and torture I'm really not in the mood for porn anymore.

UST on the other hand... *whimpers* I'm a huge fan of UST!

"The blond" or "the brunette" drives me crazy as well. I also don't care for references to Arthur's "golden skin." It just makes me think of that James Bond movie where the woman's skin is actually all golden.

What I'd love to see more in this fandom

I love intimacy, rather than full-blown sex. Something that leads up to the sex and then some kind of resolution. I guess I'm saying I like plot with my porn.

If there is too much porn, I skip over it. Slipping tab A into slot B gets a bit repetitious. So, for me, authors have to get inventive with their sex scenes or have some kind of dialogue or something extra or I just move along. Sorry!

I really hate rimming. Hate it. If it's in the summary or notes, I just skip right past the story. I know other people love it and that's fine but it's not for me.

I admit it. I like dub-con and non-con. Don't know why but I do. So I'd love to see more of it, please.

I also love hurt/comfort when it leads to sex. But that goes back to the intimacy issue. I just like to see them taking care of each other in many, many different ways.

I also have a huge soft spot for h/c. Also, age difference; I love when there's a marked gap in age between Merlin and Arthur. And keeping them in character. I want to be reading about Arthur/Bradley with Merlin/Colin - the ones we all love, not a pair of imposters.

I hate euphemistic sex. I don't know if the writer thinks it's crass or, idk, predictable to use blunt language when describing sex, but nothing has me closing a fic faster than reading about someone's 'pulsing love-stick'. (You know, for example.)

I get really tired of non-con, tbh. I won't skip over a fic due to it, but I will skim over it, especially in fic where there's repeated incidences.

Like the anon above, I get tired of repetitive porn. If you're writing a story with actual plot, and it takes you 20+ chapters to get to because of all the sex? Chances are, you're going to lose me long before then, even if you are an amazing author, or the story promises to be incredible.

Gah, magical bondage... And for me that's tied (heheh...) to Merlin taking control, which is another thing I love. Not so much dark Merlin mind you, but Merlin taking control. And I love Arthur reacting both ways; I love when he gets surprised into redhot aroused submission but also when he fights Merlin over it (nothing to do with dub con though, just a battle of characters.)
