Care to explain that to JCapps? Because he apparently feels the magic remaining secret is what makes this show exciting and what good TV is supposed to be. Like, say, Superman. (My sarcasm isn't aimed at you, btw, just in case that isn't clear - I'm actually in full agreement with your post)

Not only the friendship but also Arthur's capability to become the great king of legend, or Merlin's to grow into a role of a wise and powerful confidant to the great king. I think that's really the crux of the matter for me - there are ways of fixing relationships, even if one has to suspend disbelief a bit or ignore past discrepancies, so I can sort of cringe-but-muddle through A/M setbacks. But Arthur being consistently too bloody dimwitted to see past his nose and Merlin's inability to make decisions without (shady)advise is what's seriously bothering me about the show overall.

Sorry to barge in here, but just wanted to say that I actually think Johnny is really good at being subtle. There's different ways of being subtle. I remember an SFX interview, just like the newest one, that he did for S2, and in it he said things about Mordred's development in S2 that, um, DID NOT HAPPEN and when you re-read the interview, sound so contrived and FAKE. Anytime he's asked a direct question, he avoids it. Like, the A/G/L triangle and if G/L is going to happen before A/G get married, thus no betrayal and he just went on a tangent and COMPLETELY AVOIDED ANSWERING THE QUESTION. He's doing the same thing now with the magic reveal. Because 1) It's a direct question, and 2) A lot of people want it.

/goes away now. sorry!

I strongly agree with you. Another season without a reveal would be a big let down, and as I believe Bradley said, they can only play Arthur dumb for so long (before it becomes a tad ridiculous)... And all the scenes where Arthur was conveniently unconscious whenever Merlin performed magic last season kind of got on my nerves towards the end, and I really hope they try to make it more realistic this season. And why not let Arthur actually catch a glimpse for once? Or just see something mildly suspicious?

And I definitely think the reveal should be a part of their new and stronger trust... But I thought the spoilers sort of hinted that Merlin will actually be thinking about and contemplating revealing himself this season, at least I hope so!

Exactly! Yeah, that scene practically made me say "how the hell did you not hear that, Arthur?" out loud. And I can recall several other scenes where Merlin has subtly whispered spells in Arthur's presence and he doesn't hear a single thing. Maybe sometime he could turn around and go "did you say something?" just to show that his hearing is in working order :P

Me too, it would be great to watch, Colin does angsty&troubled!Merlin so well.

Oh, me too! It was just so heartbreaking to watch :( That would be fantastic! Hm... sounds familiar somehow, but then again, it might just be wishful thinking, so I don't really know.
