1. Recommend a vegetable that you like.
Corn. I'm on a huge corn kick right now. Especially since it's in season. There's nothing like corn on the cob. 120 calories, and about 5 grams of fiber. Mmmm!
2. Recommend a fruit that you like.
Apples. Love them. Fujis are my fave. 80 calories and about 4 grams of fiber.
3. Recommend a healthy lunch food.
Right now I'm really into whole wheat or sprouted wheat english muffins and bagels. They're usually in the neighborhood of 260 calories, and have as much as 9 grams of fiber each. You can put any number of things on them... soy butter, fruit spread, nonfat cream cheese. They keep me pretty full and are very satisfying.
4. What are your favorite workout clothes?
Lately I've been loving my cotton shorts from the Gap. They're really short, so they're not for everyone, but I like them because they don't restrict my movement at all. I pair them with a tank with built-in support.
5. What kind of sneakers/shoes do you wear when you work out?
Do you like them? Would you recommend them?
I have Asics, and they're a medium stability shoe (more support for overpronators). I really like them, they make my arches feel good and I would recommend them for anyone who needs a stability shoe. (You can go to any sporting goods store and ask a staff member to watch you walk and they can tell if you need a stability shoe or not. Best way for you to tell is if you have pain in your arches when you exercise.)
6. a. Gym users: What is your favorite gym workout?
I love the elliptical. Great because they are low-impact, which is good for my crappy knees. :P
b. non-gym users: What is your favorite workout?
When I didn't belong to the gym, I liked simply walking around the city. I live in San Francisco, so walking around here can be quite the workout, with all of our hills!
7. Can you recommend a workout DVD/video?
Abs of Steel. Kind of dorky, but I always really enjoy doing them. And they're short--only 15 min. each.
8. Do you have a recipe that you would like to share?
I have so many! Here's one that I really like (And I believe it came from Shape!):
Garlic Shrimp and Broccoli Pasta (serves 6)
10-12 cloves garlic
1 cup chicken stock
7 ounces angel hair pasta
2 tablespoons water
1 pound broccoli florets
½ cup white onions
½ pound uncooked, medium shrimp, peeled, deveined and halved
½ cup fresh dill, chopped
1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes (more for a bit more kick)
salt
pepper
Put the garlic and stock in a small sauce pan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and cover. Simmer for about 20 minutes or until the garlic is soft enough to mash with a fork. Transfer the contents of the pan to a food processor or blender and puree until smooth, then set aside. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the pasta, stirring to make sure the strands don’t stick together, and cook over high heat to desired tenderness. Meanwhile, put 1 tablespoon of the water in a nonstick frying pan and bring to boil over medium heat. Add the broccoli and onion, reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook for 3 minutes. Add the shrimp, dill, and the remaining tablespoon of water. Stir, recover, and cook for 4-5 minutes until shrimp is pink. Remove from heat when the pasta is done, drain and return it to the pot over very low heat. Add the garlic puree and mix well to coat the pasta. Add the broccoli shrimp mix and the seasonings.
