My own damned fault

Hey again. Just thought I'd give a quickie run-down (quite an apropos phrase, that) of where I've been the last few months.

I'm not in school this semester. Something of a bummer since I was looking forward to proof class and number theory, but there was only one class I really needed and that can wait until next fall. And since I still can't get a bachelor's I'm still not precisely sure what the point is (aside from the fun of it).

No, I agreed to stay on at work and help hit the October deadline for some manuals. And then I agreed to be my manager while she was on vacation (she's got a professor for a boy friend and her vacation was after his summer classes but before the fall quarter, so it hit right as things were coming down to the wire. Horrible timing, but--)

So I was basically working 2.5 jobs for the end of August, through September, and then playing catch-up on my own manuals after that. Not the level that gets Japanese widows death by work benefits, but still pretty tough.

It's not all bad. I've discovered that I like writing about gadgets a lot more than I liked writing about financial software, and I've met some very cool people. I went to Taiwan twice and had a great time. I'm hoping to swing a trip to Germany or India or both before all is said and done.

The place is seriously dysfunctional, though. Very weird. There have got to be some stories in there somewhere. And I'm very much glad to be back here. I missed you all. I was just afraid that I'd get sucked into real lives and get even further behind schedule, so I did not let myself get on LJ once during the whole mess.

Oh--one good thing. I became a real, honest-to-gosh disciple of my sifu. Gary did, too. So now I'm married to my brother, or--uh--something.

school, work
