I don't think that Lexie would have an abortion. Mark would be crushed. For once, I want a woman to want him. But yeah, I see option 1 happening, and I sooo do not want that.
Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't think for an instant that Lexie would get an abortion without serious thought first. I'm sure she WOULD want the baby, but after what we've seen of her with her plans and whatnot...a child might not be a part of them now. She was reluctant to even move in, and a child is a much more serious obligation than living together.
The intensity would come from her being torn between wanting Mark and his baby, but also wanting the future she invisioned for herself. There's only so much a person can give/compromise. That's why I think Lexie's a strong character...I think she knows how much to give.
As for whether or not I think they'll end up together, I can't say. I can see Shonda conditioning them for another longterm MerDer case, but I can see her breaking them up as well. And, unless Mark goes for one of the Mercy West residents, that entails ANOTHER new regular, at least one...the show would suffer for that.
Oh, what a harsh storyline, but it could be so, so well done...
If...They really show the struggle with the decision, not just two throwaway scenes over three weeks. I would want Lexie to *think* about the abotion, and keep it to herself, finally confiding in Meredith (it would also be a nice moment for them to remember and miss George), or maybe even Cristina would be better, considering she's gone through this herself. And then the Meredith whispers-dropped chart-something happens so that Mark catches wind of it, and goes to find Lexie to see what's been going on, and she says she's been *thinking*...and Mark blows it out of proportion, begs Lexie to have the baby, and Lexie is torn, because she doesn't want to hurt him like this. She finally decides to have the baby, maybe thinking about the state of her dad's health, and losing her mom, and everything (plus the fact that she does love Mark, and if she's going to have children with anyone, she can see it with him), but it's a very high risk pregnancy. (And maybe this would be

If the plan is for everyone to leave after their residency, then yes. I don't really want for this to be a revolving door like ER was. I like the idea that these people are supposed to be family, and it should be momentous when somebody leaves.
See, that's what I don't know. The contracts of the original (season 1) cast go through season 7 (or was it eight?) with the open option to sign on for more. Others, like Callie and Mark, who weren't regulars, have a longer contract, I think...?
If the show goes on an upswing over the next two seasons, I can see it maybe continuing. Many of these actors owe their whole careers to the show, and most enjoy being a part of it.
I'm sure Shonda will beat it like a dead horse and keep it going regardless of whether or not it's the original cast, but it won't be the same. Many people are up in arms about them possibly grooming Lexie to be the titular Grey.
idk. After watching the episode last night, and when the chief had the meeting with the attendings, I so saw Mark and Derek being the ones to take over. Then add the scene with Hunt about the "fun" surgery...oh those three would turn the hospital around.

I see Addison coming back for a Mer/Der baby, if anything. Haha. So ironic.
(LOVE that fic, btw.)
