1) I've learned interesting things in the last post's drabble meme. For one thing, I have little to none understanding of how much of a constraint 50 words really are. I've also learned that I can't write Dean Thomas. I just can't. He and Seamus are to me pretty much furniture in a fic, or in the books.
2) Dean Thomas, which visitors to jkrowling.com knows, was a character that was meant to have played a bigger part in the books. Unfortunately JK Rowling has difficulty enough to make Ginny seem important, so to have another character be big in the plot would just be too much for her. So the only thing I can attach to Dean Thomas is that he's one of the two Gryffindor Boys that works as filling out the boys' dormitory and thus give the illusion that Harry is at a school with many, many students, and not just as many as the plot demands. Oh, and he's black too. Dean, I mean. Which I can't recall ever reading in the books...
Anyway, Dean is good at drawing and likes muggle-soccer. As far as he knows he's muggleborn. But sometime before the HBP-release, in a not-at-all-suspcious move, JK Rowling revealed on her website that Dean is actually halfblood. Dun dun DUUH! Which had of course the sole purpose of making it even more difficult to figure out who the HBP was, as having a character who's never been mentioned to be a half-blood be the right answer just wasn't enough... But the Dean/Seamus-shippers, which I assume exist, were probably very happy about it, so no reason to complain.
He has dated Ginny. And received anonymous death threats signed The Monster in Harry's Chest. (I don't how signed letter are anonymous, so don't bother asking.
Annoying, rambling on him doesn't help me in writing him. It's possible that I just don't want to write him. Am I afraid of writing minor characters? Am I worried about turning these furniture-characters into actual people?
3) It is of course possible that I'm just plain bad at drabble-memes. Maybe I need to drabble more often? This is the first time I can remember having a drabble-meme afterall...
4) I may put "not writing Dean Thomas" and "not writing Seamus Finnigan" and more likely "not writing Blaise Whateverhisnamewas" in my interests. This is useful information! (And not at all me looking for excuses not to write about Dean.)
