Important stuff! LJ limits gender identification!

This is extra upsetting to me, because I've recently gone into a gender identity crisis. (I'm feeling more and more of a bi-gendered identity than a strictly female one, although I'm still mostly uncertain about it. I also have a trans-gendered friend in RL, which is part of why I'm hesitant in starting to call myself bi-gendered until I am certain this is the case for me.)

Even if one had a perfectly cisgendered identity, female in female body and/or male in male body, this should be a concern for the sake of choice of anonymity. People may prefer not to have a gender on their online persona for various reasons, and removing that option removes a great deal of the freedom that comes with internet in general. From a "free internet"-political view, this move from LJ is disturbing news.

Gender politically bad. Free internet-politically bad. Why not just say "We hate the younger generation and their radical views" and just get it over with? "You young whippersnappers and your desire to the freedom of identifying yourselves as you feel appropriate. Why, in my day..."

gender politics, lj
