today i had a lovely experience in vancouver during lunch.
i had to conduct 3 interviews at a clinic on the other side of the 'couve from where i normally work. i decided to try a sushi place i have seen while driving past on I-205. turns out it is located next to the gun store so i expected the worse assuming only rednecks frequented the place.
this ended up being my best vancouver experience in months. i was the only person in the place other than the owners, a chubby tall guy (i assumed american) and his japanese wife. after settling into my seat, i started having this weird tingling feeling i usually associate with peaceful excitement. i didn't know why it was happening and just went with the flow. intuition?
without asking, the lady served me green tea. i ordered a combo sushi, tempura & miso lunch special. i sipped my miso & tea until the rest of the food arrived. halfway through eating, the man asked if i lived in or traveled through japan. um, no? he said i held my miso like a japanese person. we chatted a bit about how i was happy to find the place, sushi favorites, his adventures serving live fish, etc.
when i was almost finished eating, he brought me a surprise food to try that he just made. it looked like colorless wakame salad which i correctly guessed to be...jellyfish! anybody who knows me understands how an artfully placed jellyfish is a charm to me.
as a tip, i left one of the super special TWO-dollar bill origami folds that grant created for me. this was a special one shaped like a woman's dress that i have been carrying for months. it felt like the right place and time to pass it on. i left it in the check fold as a surprise after i was gone.
i love when the universe gives me perfect moments in time like this afternoon's lunch. it was a recharge i needed. thank you.
