Exhibit B: Write About Indians

May 26, 2013 19:22

Most little girls put themselves into fairy tales and hope that one day they'll find their prince. I put myself into music. I still do. When I couldn't speak, music could do it for me. When I was nine or so I discovered this song on a record that my parents had and I fell in love with the story it told and with Running Bear and Little White Dove. ( Read more... )

Holy Nostalgia, Batgirl!

I know that song and loved it too and am probably just about your same age (I am 41).

I have to go listen to it now! And Tom Jones?! bahahahaaaa. I hadn't thought about this song in so long and certainly never knew or put it together that it was Tom Jones.

What a GREAT take on the "Indian" topic. I kept looking at that one and shaking my head. Thanks for making me realize that you don't have to be a studied scholar on Indians to write a response to a topic about them.

We are close to the same age. I'm 40 and feeling it. LOL

Apparently multiple people did the song and the one I grew up with was a deeper voiced than the one I can find on YouTube. I had no idea the song was so popular!

None of the prompts really spoke to me this week but when I thought Indians I thought this song. I'm glad you enjoyed my take on the topic!

omg, still laughing! Went to verify your Tom Jones claim because I felt quite adamant that this wasn't Tom Jones (sorry, I'm a bit of a music snob) and it turns out the version I grew up with was Johnny Preston's, but there IS actually a Tom Jones version and it is SOOOOO effin' cheesy to me!! LOL Are you familiar with Johnny Prestoni's version? His version is every bit as cheesy in totally different ways. Who takes the cake?? It's a toss-up! hahaaaha

Ears With Feet! I had to google that and oh Tori, how fucking cool is that woman?!

I can't believe I had to google that! Tori is the only artist who has ever brought me to tears at a live show.

Such a bad Toriphile! LOL

She is amazing. I have seen her every time she has been to KC and I saw her in VA as well. She's just so moving.

I did hear the Johnny Preston one on YouTube the other night and that definitely wasn't the version I had. Much deeper voice on mine. Apparently the Big Bopper covered it as well. Who knows who actually wrote the song. LOL
