I try, but this is strictly amateur hour - there are people who put me to shame, mostly because they can afford to spend more on it. As it is, I gave myself a $850 budget for the conversion of this system. Considering that we already had the tank, stand, canopy, and external filter, that sounds like a lot, but...the substrate (gravel, sand, etc) alone was about $120, the lighting, heater, CO2 kit, undersand cable, and thermostat came to around $440, and the plants and driftwood were about $100...plus I need to get a freshwater test kit and replacement media (sponges, etc) for the filter...and I haven't even bought the fish yet...
