Dad update
I always think that I should post here more, but I can never think of much to say. But I’m probably long overdue for an update on my dad’s neck injury.
First of all, a couple of details that didn’t make it into the original post: There were two vertebrae affected. Besides the fractured C6, the C5 was noticeably out of alignment. Also, the surgeon said a couple of days after the fact that a lot of people in his situation would have been paralyzed. (Thank you, God.)
After a rather difficult summer, he’s been out of the neck brace for a while and finished his course with the physical therapist earlier this week. He’ll never be able to turn his head much because of the metal rods, which makes driving kind of a dicey proposition (and one that’s making both parents crazy). Parents are currently looking into getting a new car with backup camera/blindspot monitoring/etc. Yay technology.
