Yesterday was sort of an ordeal, but still better for all concerned then last time. We got to L & D and sat in triage for forever...a couple of emergency sections bumped us, and my midwives' surgeon had a patient at the other hospital who was dilated to 9. Luckily her delivery went smoothly from there and we were able to get going by 4:30.
I had another spinal, which went so smoothly last time, and went the opposite way this time - being super dehydrated from throwing up all day maybe? Who knows, but having the doc trying to get the spinal in the right spot about six times was not pleasant. My MW said if the first insertion doesn't work, that often happens since you're all tensed up and not in a great position anymore. Even after he got it it wasn't great, and I felt so much pressure during that the barf-fest continues, Sort of a variation on throwing up while asleep but worse since I couldn't lift my head up. Patty just kept mopping me up and the surgery itself was quick, just under a half hour. They checked out all the areas affected by my ruptured ectopic and apparently there is very little in the way of adhesions, that was really nice to hear for the next time.
So yeah, gross and uncomfortable at times but nothing esp. painful, and we were both settled in up here by 7 that night. I was over the moon to get my second girl - I had my heart set on a sister for Gi but with the rest of the world convinced it was a boy I was trying to stay outwardly neutral :) Next time bring on the Y chromosomes, but now Gi has a sister as her closest sibling...that makes me very happy, and room sharing a bit easier in a few years once we've got 4 kids in two rooms.
She looks just like Georgia, a non post-mature version - she even had vernix, which Gi had completely lost by the time she made her grand entrance. She looked unbelievably tiny to me all last night at 7 lbs 13 ozs, but after seeing the other babies in the joint I'm starting to see her as sorta normal baby size. Compared to the other babies, Gi always looked more like a toddler at her ten pounds, three weeks overdue self.
I think some of the anesthesia probably got to the kiddo during all the drawn out spinal drama, and she took her sweet time waking up enough to nurse. I couldn't sleep cuz I wanted to make sure we were good to go on that front - I kept waking her up ever hour but she wasn't having any part of it, just kept promptly falling back to sleep and falling right off the boob. At 1:30 litle miss woke up of her own accord and got down to business. I know I'll sleep more tonight knowing we're both with the program.
The nurse unhooked me from all the bells and whistles this am, and I can take a real shower once the stiches pass inspection tomorrow am.
Georgia seems to be in love with her new sister, which is adorable. There will be toddler drama once we're home I'm sure but so far so good in sibling land. Off to try to pee again - apparently I gotta go three times before this shift is up so that the nurses relax about taking the catheter out early. :) Pics to follow, we
are having camera cord issues. Hugs all!
