Back Home

We just got back from vacation...it was nice, we went with A and L, so even though a lot of our plans got rained out, we were able to play board games and such inside. We got up to my folks' house on the Cape on Saturday afternoon, had dinner in P-town, and Sunday went to Chatham to have dinner with L's sister and bro-in-law. The place was ridiculously expensive and not very good, sheesh. Monday we were going to go to one of the islands, but A's still in the throes of morning sickness, and with the rain, we went to P-town instead for the day. Tuesday we drove to Plimouth Plantation so E and L the history-nerds could badger the staff endlessly. Wet, but I'm glad we went, and then we came home yesterday, stoppping in Mystic, CT in the middle to go to the aquarium and Mystic Pizza. The aquarium has renovated a ton since the last time we were there - the belugas were great, there was a neat sea lion show included in admission, and I spent half an hour petting the rays in the touch tank. They have a program where you can feed and interact with the belugas in their enclosure, and I know what I'll be doing next summer, lol!

Our teenage neighbor Jon watched the farm animals and he did a decent job... he didn't notice that a bunch of chicks had died, and so that was very, very gross to clean up last night when we came home, but it's better then losing pullets or hens. We lost 7, but picked up 20 at the feed store this am (we've learned to hedge our bets, and we don't want to wind up not having enough eggs to sell next year) We need to place an order for goat stuff - the kids need to be tatooed and Faunus needs to be castrated, but since we'd also like to order a pricey gallon covered milk pail for Midnight we want to touch base with her current owners to make sure the deal is still on. I know they were going to Jamaica so maybe they're still there. Hopefully we can get in touch with them tomorrow.

Water people are coming today to see if they can de-smell it, since we haven't been able to, and I'll head out to the garden soon to see how that looks.
