I found out last night that my cousin was shot by his friend. He was about 19, and his dead body lay in the friend's yard for 5 hours while the police investigated...before his parents were even told.
He is now in Chapel Hill for an autopsy and the family has been told nothing more than that it was his friend who shot him. No one knows why, or if it was an accident or on purpose.
I'm so angry at so many things....but I am too overwhelmed with the sad news to vent about it. His name was Holden, and I am (was?) pretty close with him and his mom. He was such a sweet kid. Very shy, very quiet. It's just so hard to imagine that someone would shoot him. Why? It's so hard for me to grasp random violence and anger- or maybe its so hard to understand because I knew Holden and can't begin to imagine that he instigated it.
My brother says he heard from some guys that it was on purpose. What could Holden possibly have done to deserve being killed?
