Hey Sarah,
This is realy great. I think it's realy creative how you describe the body as wounded and relate childbirth to war. It reminds me of a poem I studyed in High School by Deb Westbury. though I'd shar a little of it with you.

smoke grey sky alight
with bursts of autumn foliage
on the periphery of pain and sense
the muffled thud of doors closing
like heavy artillery
in the distance
i wondered what enemy
would come this far
the stomach wound stitched
and bleeding still
where new life was wrenched from me
clutching and suckling at the void.

That is the first stanza from The Persistence of Memory. :)Hope you like it as much as I did.
