and the weather this year just keeps getting weirder

The National Weather Service has confirmed that there were three tornadoes in Maine last night. THREE. Wtf man. All within 20 miles of my house. Awesome. One actually started in my town (the opposite side of town from where I live, but still). I think there was a microburst in the next town over, too. It's weird though, we didn't have any damage, not even a few branches down. The storm definitely passed over us though, we were in our basement for about an hour.

We didn't see anything with the first tornado warning, the sky stayed white clouds with patches of blue sky. Tornadoes in Maine is ridiculous, but just in case we got stuff ready to go to the basement. Flashlights, a radio, Skipper's cat carrier, turned off everything, shut all the windows and closed all the doors, put my car in the garage (my mom was at work, so I could do that), and of course the whole time we were watching the sky. Then all of a sudden there was a second warning, and about ten minutes later we could see a mass of grey clouds. We scooped Skipper up and went down to the basement. Nikki's a weirdo and is afraid of the horrendous creaking our basement stairs make, so my dad had to take her outside and around to the back door to the basement (our house is built into a hill) to get her down there. Poor Skipper was UN. HAPPY. about being in his carrier, partly I think because the only time he goes in it is to go to the vet. Nikki, meanwhile, is going 'ooooh the basement, I've never been here before, I'm going to sniff EVERYTHING (and try licking off the floor the mineral deposits from previous water leakage/flooding)'. The storm mass moved in pretty quickly, in about 10 minutes the sky darkened completely. Not super scary black and ominous, but it got really dark really fast. And by then the power had gone out. Cue the torrential rain and thunder and lightning. During the worst part of it there was a few minutes of continuous thunder and lightning, no pauses in between or anything.

It took about half an hour to pass (an by pass I mean it was still raining hard, but the thunderstorm that could possibly spawn a tornado had passed), and my dad when upstairs to check on stuff. About ten minutes later he comes back and says that there's more dark clouds in the distance, so we're just going to stay in the basement a little longer. That I think didn't end up passing over us, but we were down there for about another half hour. For the last ten minutes or so my dad was out setting up our small generator to run the fridge and the freezer so we didn't lose stuff. I'm still surprised Nikki didn't flip out, normally she hates thunderstorms and tries to hide in the bathroom, and we have to chase her out because she lays on the rug and my mom doesn't want her doing that. She did bark some, but she didn't seem scared, just confused about what was happening. She really did not like hearing the floor/ceiling creak when my dad was walking around upstairs, and seemed concerned about Skipper yowling. We had to put stuff around the table where we set his carrier because she kept nosing it being all 'why/what are you doing', which obviously wasn't going to help him.

When I left for work this morning at 6am we still didn't have power, so I went to Dunkin Donuts for breakfast. My mom called when we got power back around 11:30am.

So, that was my night last night. Oh and I got three or four Oz jokes, which made me lol :p

stupid weather, *sigh* maine
