yes, I will drive almost two hours to get books signed by the author

I'm just hoping this good mood/writing motivation lasts through my exams so I can put it to good use.

I just got back from the Brandon Sanderson signing in NH. I got the two books that I had signed and bought one of his others. He's officially on tour for Wheel of Time, but I don't have the time/effort to commit to a re-read of the series (10 plus the last one Robert Jordan wrote that I haven't read plus the new one by Brandon for a total of 12 books, each over 500 pages). So I'll be waiting until the series is finished (2 books to go and it'll finally be done) and read it all at once. Anyway, it's the second signing I've been to, the first being the first time I met Tamora Pierce (damn that must have been 7 years ago), and I love small signings like this in local bookshops. Brandon spoke for like 45 minutes or so, talking about how he became a writer, Robert Jordan and the series, how he was chosen to finish WoT, reading a few pages from the book, and answering questions. The atmosphere was great, among the fans and Brandon himself, it was just lots of fun. They were giving away stuff, I got a color version of the Wheel of Time map that's in the books, which is now on my wall, and a bumper sticker that says 'I killed Asmodean' (which made everyone laugh and I think everyone grabbed one). I really wish I could have stayed until the end when they had drawings for free stuff, like boxed sets and the comic book/graphic novel (I don't remember which it is) adaptation of the first WoT book, but it gets dark so friggin early now and half of the drive I needed the mapquest directions for, so I wanted to take advantage of what remained of the daylight. As it was, I managed to make it through the unfamiliar part before it got totally dark (at 5:30 *grumble*). Oh well, I got my books signed :p

I don't remember much about the Tamora Pierce signing because it was so long ago, but I do remember that my motivation to write was given a big boost, and the same happened today. Just in time, of course, for me to write a midterm and take two exams, but after that I need to do my writing portfolio for the fiction creative writing class application, so I'm hoping hoping that motivation will survive the exams, and hopefully last past the portfolio so I can use it to actually write a lot of new stuff for once.

So, today was pretty cool :)
