YATTAAAAAA! :D
OMG MICAH! NO SPOILERS, I PROMISE, BUT THEY FINALLY BRING MICAH BACK AND HE'S AWESOME. WE'VE BEEN WAITING ALL SEASON AND BEEN LIKE WHERE THE FUCK DID HE GO. ALSO, WE SQUEED MAJORLY AT HIRO. I LOVE HIM. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NOT NEARLY ENOUGH PETER IN THIS EPISODE.

Okay so, my Winry cosplay is officially a go. I have these coverall things that I wasn't sure would work, they're short-sleeved for one, and two, there's white facing on the inside that shows when I pull down the top part. But I fixed that by buying a long-sleeve shirt that's pretty close to the same color, so I'm just going to put that on underneath, and that gives me sleeves to tie around my waist and covers the facing. lol I do need to wear a belt however, to keep the pants from falling down :p I may or may not buy an actual tube top, folding and pinning a black tank top I have works just the same, I tried it already. So I just need to get sandals and a wrench, and we're going to JoAnne Fabrics this weekend, where I'll get the cloth for her headscarf. OH YEAH I SHOULD PROBABLY BUY THE WIG NOW HAHAHA XD will do after I post this.

*sigh* I read this short story buy this guy, and it was pretty good. It was set in the world of two of his novels, and it was enough to make me want to read them. It's the first straight-up sci-fi novel I've read in a while, just because I haven't come across anything particularly intriguing. It's been disappointing however.

Basic plot, it's an alternate universe/history space epic, where the two superpowers that have emerged are China and Mexico, and they're currently at war over the red planet Fire Star (I can't decide if it's supposed to be Mars or not), moving on from being at war on Earth. Chinese culture has been carried into the space age. But, Aztec culture + technology = not pretty. As in they kept the human sacrifice element. As in instead of an electrical charge to start the batteries/power source for the spaceships, it's hemoglobin from a fresh sacrifice. Yeah.
Anyway, China salvaged a crashed Mexica spaceship, and is going to use it to infiltrate the Mexica stronghold on an asteroid orbiting Fire Star from which they've been launching attacks. The plan is to blow up the asteroid, and that combined with the bazillion places/ways the mission could go wrong makes it a suicide mission, for which they pick ex-soldiers on death row. The two main characters are the leaders of the team, one the Chinese version of a Marine, the other a spaceship captain with only average military training/background. But once they get there they find dozens of Chinese prisoners, kept for the sacrifices, and they now have to save them in addition to blowing up the asteroid, which means it can no longer be a suicide mission.
Though I already know China wins, since the short story I read takes place when Fire Star is part of the China's "Celestial Empire", past the colonial stage and obviously way past the war. Whatever.

Now comes the rant. :p The story I read was in a YA/Teen anthology of sci-fi and fantasy stories by well-known authors in the genres. The novel is written for adults. Holy shit is there a difference in his writing. He is friggin long-winded, goes off on character explanations too much, and uses foreshadowing in every chapter in that annoying "and that was where the trouble began" and blah blah, page of vague description of a couple days worth of events then "it was clear things were about to get much worse" then jumping to character explanations to explain why the trouble was starting then going back to the trouble as it was happening, and so on. Used a couple times foreshadowing like that is ok, but I swear he ends every other chapter with some foreshadowing shit. And the other chapters he ends with the captain guy being all woe is me I'm spineless and a pussy and I'm probably going to die aren't I and this really sucks and I'm useless in combat because I freeze under pressure or from the horror of facing a Mexica ship. lol blahhhh can you tell how much I dislike this character?
He's using altercations between the crew members to reveal each of their backstories, which I like, but each one takes so friggin long to do the appreciation for that technique has gone.
Grrr, and his sentences are so wordy. It's taken legit 200 pages, half the book for them to gather the team, throw them through half-assed training because time is limited, launch the restored and re-furbished enemy spaceship, and get nearly to the asteroid.
NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET THAT IS NOT IN THE PARAGRAPH SUMMARY ON THE BACK OF THE BOOK. Shit is only now starting to hit the fan, but it's in slow-mo. I keep reading because the premise of this world is so fascinating, I keep hoping it'll get interesting. But when the real plot only starts after 150 or so pages, I'm starting to lose hope. It's like reading Tolkien without the awesome plot and kickass characters and amazingly complex and awesome world. Gah. He should stick to writing for teens, he's way more interesting.

Also, what the fuck is up with Supernatural this week? I don't want this alternate universe shit where they're not hunters, then run into bad things, then mysteriously know what to do and how to fight them, and are all wtf is happening. And last week's was depressing as hell, I want to throttle Sam, and poor Dean, when is he going to get a break? NCIS and Lost better be good this week.

HAHAHA over spring break I watched 35 episodes of Soul Eater. And between yesterday and today I watched another 10. I'll be caught up in time for tonight's sub released on Wednesday :p lol wtf another show that I get into as it's ending.
BUT I'M SO LOOKING FORWARD TO FMA THIS WEEKEND :D

cosplay, ranting, fma, books=love, supernatural
