Classes started this week. So far, the good:
☺ I'll get to read a lot of books for my literature class
☺ My Theories professor is surprisingly entertaining
☺ No early classes - earliest class is 3:05pm
☺ All of my classes are within walking distance of one another
The bad:
☹ My lit class's classroom looks only a tad bit more inviting than a dungeon
☹ ALL of my classes have ridiculously strict attendance policies
☹ I have to buy a lot of books- one of them requires five, another SEVEN
☹ I'll have to write a lot of annoyingly tedious papers
☹ I have to somehow fit my Honor's Thesis paper in there, too
... maaaaybe it's a good thing to be semi-jobless right now, tbh. I'm going to need all the time I can get to survive this Spring ;-;
Another bummer is that Sarah has to stay in St. Petersburg three days a week until the semester is over. Her dad lives right by the USF St. Pete campus, the closest USF campus she could get into, so she'll be living with him Monday-Wednesday. Damn you Tampa campus for reaching student capacity so ridiculously fast... otherwise, she'd be going there with me >__>; It's going to be hard to get used to.
In better news:
As part of my new year's resolution to go out more, I've been very active the past couple days \o/ On Sunday, Sarah and I went to our neighborhood's Farmer's Market, which was actually very good. It's held once monthly (boo!) on the grounds of Hillsborough High School, which looked like a building from an Ivy League college :O We definitely want to go back. After that, we went to USF's students-only River Front park and rented a canoe for a few hours on the river :D I was so giddy! Canoeing is not that thrilling to most people, but I'd never done it before. It was a little scary actually :X
Since I don't have class until 6pm today, I woke up early and drove out to St. Pete to meet Sarah and her family. We went to see the opening ceremony of the new Salvador Dali museum, which
looks awesome. The best part was the parade, which we had to chase down eight blocks since we left a bit late D: There were reeeally weird, cool costumes, like a guy with a snail head being followed by two little boys with umbrellas. There were also some ghetto ones, like a girl dressed in brown with a pizza box taped to her hat xD All, however, provided lols.
After the parade, they opened up a table of free food (mostly bread and various things to dip it in) and a bunch of people started giving speeches. We entertained ourselves by exploring the museum grounds, which included a nifty garden maze and rock garden. They eventually cut a ribbon and let people inside, but the speeches were taking so long that we ended up leaving before they actually did so. We went over to the nearby airport and had lunch instead, which was delicious. One of these days I'll give the museum a proper visit... there are so few good ones in this state.
I'm going to try to push myself to keep this up if time allows- going out, attending (local) free or low-cost events, and keeping busy. I want to start attending anime club again, too. I know I stay happier that way, I just get lazy :P School alone will probably consume most of my time on its own though if I actually don't procrastinate this semester
Gonna try to take a nap now before class... I'm in another new building, which I hope is not as dismal as the one my lit class is in :X
