If men got pregnant you know this wouldn't happen... quite possibly a triggery subject...
First, let me welcome all of you to Utah, where the dominant religion is Mormonism and if you don't adhere to the strictures of that religion you are an heathenish infidel, much akin to all that dwells in outer darkness the political climate is very conservative.
But, just... there are no words for this, the last two links say it best:
http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_14429070 http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/blog/2010/02/19/utah-passes-bill-that-charges-women-for-illegal-abortion-or-miscarriage http://www.feministe.us/blog/archives/2010/02/23/utah-bill-would-criminalize-miscarriage/ The Great Pro-Choice/Pro-life argument aside. This law is just so dangerous, it's so broad, and far reaching, and it clearly attacks victims more so than perpetrators. This is just all wrong.
Why not exclude the first and second trimester miscarriages? So many woman miscarry in their first trimester, and they didn't even know they were pregnant, they might not know what they were doing would cause a miscarriage! Or, why are they focusing on the woman and nothing on the third party participants? The example the state of Utah is using for a catalyst of this law was of a woman that acted with another individual. And the example the articles give regarding victims of domestic violence is so real and pertinent - those women will now face felony charges because their bastard of abusers attacked them. And how the hell does one define 'reckless'?
Will every miscarriage now be subject to a legal investigation?
Hell, I already spread 'em for medical investigation, I now have to use two hands to count how many highly educated McDreamies (actually none have been good looking thus far, but that reminds me of this nightmare I had...) have had to examine my dark-dwelling nethers. I might as well start showing the Blues With Badges... I guess...
Right, right, I can see how this law makes perfect sense. /sarcasm
