today has been very nice.
i started my volunteer work today. so i'm volunteering at a soup kitchen, but it's not really that. it;'s a resturant that's free (there's a box at the door, so people can pay what they want.) it's by the shuk and super cute and the food is really, really good. (i know because they insist the volunteers eat there too.) you sit down, it looks like a resturant, and you order. you can complain, be obnoxious, hit on the waitress, and many other things. you can also take portions home for the family, or even raw food if you want to cook for your family. it's all about dignity, which is so, soo revolutionary and cool. all people, from arabs to jews to thai workers to russians eat there. (and volunteer as well.)
i was a waitress for a while. let's just say it's not my natural skill, but i got better as time went on. i didn't drop anything, got only one order wrong, and only knocked over one glass of water.
i also hung out with some iraqi women (i highly reccomend this to anyone) and learned how to make kubeh, a doughy thing with meat inside. they said i was good, for a ashkenzai (jewish european) girl.
stayed in this weekend, maybe headed up north next weekend for a little kibbutz socialist action, religious jewish style. exciting things include the fact for the next few thursday nighst musuems are free from 8-1 am, internship press conference in tel aviv that i get to go to, and several concerts: matisyahu, shotei havenuah (the drunk/crazy prophetss), ivri lider, and ehud banai.
oh. and he called. because he missed me. =)
