Trans men at women's colleges

I'm a first-year at a women's college. Some of the students are trans men; however, as far as I can tell, there are no trans women. See, the policy is that if you're legally female, you can enroll. So, since most trans women are not legally female when they're around 17-19 ( Read more... )

Oh, good thought. Thanks. However, I think it might be a good idea anyway to start with a student group, to build up support, raise consciousness, brainstorm, maybe get a petition going, etc. I doubt they'll listen to one firstie, and indeed that they've never realized that trans women may want to attend. It's not like I can bring them The Gospel of Trans Existence and they will see the light.

But perhaps I should just kind of drop them a line, just to see if that gets anywhere at all? I don't know...

Just so you know, I attend Mount Holyoke College, in case anyone wants to research, email the alumna association, not accuse Smith of things I haven't researched as yet...

Offended?! Geez! MHC is a women's college. I just want it to do a better job of letting in women. Not necessarily a better job of only letting in women, just giving all women an equally fair chance. But, then, no need to offend people on principle. If you think they should be involved, I shan't question their possible motivations.

And, yeah, obvs they know about this issue - if I was doing my usual clear-as-mud thing there, I'm sorry. I was trying to state that, as lovely as it would be, I am sure that they're not keeping trans women out of MHC purely because they've never heard of such a problem. So I'm aware I cannot change things by the simple argument that trans women may wish to attend but almost always cannot, which is in a way unfortunate because then I wouldn't need to do any real persuading.

Anyway, thanks.
