OK, so, since last night's debate, and even before, there's been a lot of reiterating repetition of the line Senator Obama reiterated, that "no one is pro-abortion". While I think that has some validity in the context of challenging the conservative framing of all support of choice as wholehearted encouragement toward abortion, there's some speaking for others going on in the discourse, as well. Even before last night, I read an entry on this that really moved me, but I didn't receive permission to link it until this morning, when it had happily become even more topical.
The lovely and talented
chopchica gave me permission to link to her entry on
her pro-abortion stance and what that means to her. The crux of her point is that pro-choice and pro-abortion are subtly different: that some people (like me,
popelizbet, for one) would likely not have an abortion themselves but do not wish to limit that option for others, and that others, like her, would have an abortion with no shame or regret in case of an unwanted pregnancy. By her lights, I am pro-choice; she is pro-abortion. She makes a serious point.
It is thought-provoking stuff. Personal journal: someone else's sandbox, so play nice over there.
