I think for me, it just feels like such a waste - everything DA set up to do is gone for me now, it'll never be the same.
So true. I'll get into this more when we get to "how does Matthew's death affect the way you view S1 and S2," but looking back it all feels like ... what was the point? What was the point of giving them that Lizzy/Darcy beginning, of the heartrending separation, of the sweeping, high-stakes unrequited love of S2? Just, as you said, a waste.
I have to wonder if this experience will have any impact on hoow JF writes (for TV anyway) in the future. Will he be as jaded and "once bitten, twice shy" as we are? To me, the one thing -- maybe the only thing -- I wish he had done differently was to secure at least a verbal commitment from the actors to stay with the show past the expiration of their original contracts. It wouldn't change anything legally speaking, but in terms of having a moral obligation to the show, DS would have had a much harder time with the "I was always optioned for 3 series" line. Sigh. IDK ...
