Luna Lovegood loves colors, even if she isn't made of too many herself. When she looks in the mirror, all she sees are the yellow of her hair and the pale, pale blues of her eyes. Of course, she knows that she is by no stretch of imagination beautiful, but it bothers her a little when the world is so full of colors and she isn't. Luna isn't jealous of much, but she feels an odd feeling in the pit of her stomach when she sees a rainbow, because all the reds and yellows and pinks and greens are so far out of her reach that she can't help but want them.

The others call her a little odd, of course, but Luna hardly minds. Rather, she likes being an oddball. Her Father was an oddball and her Mother, before her death, was one too. Really. Luna would be betraying her own bloodline if turned into a second Ginny Weasley and tried to make all the boys like her by practicing her smile in front of a mirror and brushing her hair with a hundred strokes per night.

And it's a secret, of course, but sometimes Luna doesn't really like Ginny. Ginny is nice, surely, and she's lovely to look at (with her flaming red hair and friendly brown eyes), but Luna can't help envying Ginny just like she can't help envying a rainbow. Because despite all evidence to the contrary, Luna Lovegood is a teenage girl, and no amount of carrot-shaped earrings and goggle-eyed glasses can change that. She can talk about nargles, and crumple-toed snorkacks all she wants, but in some ways she can't escape conformity.

Because Luna Lovegood has crushes. On multiple boys. There's no use denying it, Luna thinks, because what is she but a Ravenclaw - and it's in the nature of Ravenclaws to search for truth. She knows people think Hermione Granger is more of a Ravenclaw than she is, but to Luna, Hermione isn't really like a Ravenclaw at all. Hermione likes logic and facts and all the pieces of a puzzle to fit perfectly. Ravenclaws, on the other hand, are questioners; they do not look at the world in terms of 'right' and 'wrong' as Gryffindors do, but in terms of 'truth' and 'untruth.' And, regrettably so, Luna knows that it is true that she might just be a little boy-crazy.

It's hard not to be when there are so many nice boys around, after all. Ron Weasley is very funny, Michael Corner very handsome, and Seamus Finnegan is very nice. But most of all, Luna can't take her eyes away from Harry Potter. She likes to think it's because they have alot in common, and because that even if he doesn't realize it, she understands him - but (and back onto the subject of truth) Luna knows that the real reason she likes him is because he has such lovely eyes.

Green has always been one of Luna's favorite colors. She likes how it is everywhere and ever-changing (very fittingly); how it can symbolize life, death, and envy, and greed. Some of her favorite memories include tall green grass blades tickling her cheeks, and looking out into a horizon of deep green seas. It is just her luck that Harry Potter's eyes are green. Do all heroes have green eyes? Luna had always thought that they were meant to be blue. She likes it how Harry breaks the trend, just like how he breaks the trend by wearing glasses and being skinny, and not saying much.

And sometimes she passes him by the hall, and he always says hi to her, no matter how uncool she may be. She remembers the time he sat with her and Neville on the train, even though other people might've made fun of him for it afterwards. Luna thinks that Harry Potter is just about the coolest boy because he doesn't care. Plus, she can't help it but hero-worship him, because at heart, that's what he really is.

So when one day out of the blue Harry Potter walks up to her, with his green eyes so very bright and his black hair rumpled adorably, and asks her if she'd like to accompany him to a party... what can she do but suppress the inner volcanoe of glee erupting inside of her and squeal 'yes?' Out of the corner of her eyes she can see the look of shock on various faces as they witness the scene. Because really, heroes aren't meant to be oddballs, but Luna thinks it is just so perfect that Harry is breaking another trend. He didn't like her at first, that she realizes. And sometimes he probably finds her unutterably odd as ever. Even back then, she thinks, he was nice to her, offering to help her find her missing things.

She realizes, however, that she must not embarass him as she says yes, and because his eyebrows are... white? She asks him if she should dye hers to match. He bites his lips at this and she can see that he is trying not to laugh, and he shakes his head and says thanks anyways but that its all right.

And right there and then, at that very moment, his eyes glitter the prettiest green Luna has ever seen. It's funny, but somehow she isn't jealous of a rainbow any longer.

The green of Harry's eyes is enough for her.
