I had Sam's Cafe for lunch today. Because of Jenn Rourke's daily
podcast I know that Sam's family is trapped in Lebanon.
Sam cooks the food. He is a very nice man, who speaks kindly to his customers. The conversation around Sam's cafe is usually just diner talk. I'm seldom too interested. The kind of background conversation that equates to elevator music. I love diner talk, but I don't take notes or write journals about it.
Sam's wife and 13-month-old son are stuck in Lebanon. Israel with world's most elite army is attacking Lebanon. The diner conversation was not typical.
Sam talked about the value of a wife. He says that marriage is the best thing that can happen. The men, old, wearing flannel shirts, drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, ask about his wife and child. They ask about the geography of the middle east. They talk about war, they talk about commitment, and they wish him well.
I order the breakfast special: two eggs (scrambled), two sausage patties, and two pancakes. The food tasted delicious in spite of the conflict overseas.
