RIP STEVE IRWIN "THE CROCODILE HUNTER"
February 22 1962- September 4, 2006.
Not just the "Crickey" star of The Croc Files, Steve touched the world with his enviromental enthusiasm. While he may be the subject of jokes in the past for his tactics of dealing with wild animals, his death should not continue the trend!
Steve took his parent's love of reptiles and built on it, creating a prominent charity for the conservation of wildlife not to mention a popular television show that allowed him to continue his efforts so widely.
Steve Irwin died in a freak accident; the uncommon death by stingray made even more tragic by the instant cardiac arrest he went into as the sting ray pierced through his chest and into his heart. He took a break from his scheduled filming when he seen a large group of sting rays. He thought it would be the perfect chance to get a head start to filming a show he was prepared to start with his 8 year old daughter, Bindi, which was scheduled for a late 2006/early 2007 release.
Steve should be an inspiration to us all -- whatever it is that you believe in, you can individually make a difference by taking your OWN life in your hands! Thanks Steve for everything you've done and everything your efforts will continue to do in the future!
Take a moment to remember the committed crocodile hunter, a pioneer who did nothing but try to make the world a better place in a generation where awareness of such issues is slipping, and showing the world happiness and selflessness can still go hand in hand!
Did you know.....?
Steve grew up around reptiles, and never thought twice about what he wanted to base his life around. He took his life in his own hands and proved that one person could indeed make a difference.
His excitement for conserving the natural enviroment and wildlife really took off after meeting wife Terri at the Australia Zoo, which had been passed down to Steve from his parents.
Steve was awarded the Centenary Award Medal for his "service to global conservation and to Australian tourism"
Irwin bought "large tracts of land" in Australia, Vanuatu, Fiji and the United States, which he described as "like national parks" to conserve the endagered wildlife.
He started the Wildlife Warriors foundation, which is an independant charity.
Irwin discovered a new species of turtle that now bears his name, Elseya irwiniIrwin's Turtlea type of snapping turtle found on the coast of Queensland.
Steve has started endagered species breeding programs -- helping over 20 breeds!
"But the most precious of all his accomplishments is Steve Irwin's ability to educate and entertain. He has single-handedly raised conservation awareness across the globe. His message has literally gotten to millions of people in many different languages. For that, we will always be grateful. "
"The Crikey fund" will be created by the Discovery Networks which will honor Steve's passion for conservation and would not only help support the Irwin's Australia Zoo but also the Education needs of the two Irwin children!
