whoa an update!
I almost never login to lj anymore (I'm unsure what even prompted me to tonight haha). But wow, it's been a pretty fantastic 5 months or so since I last posted. It's kinda funny how my life pretty much did a complete 180 in one year's time. This time last year, I'd just been laid off yet again, this time by Oracle, and was struggling financially and was just a complete wreck in general. I eventually got that brief contract position with GrubHub but the pay was garbage and my parents were still subsidizing most of my living in Chicago (which is completely embarrassing to me, being 26 years old at the time).
I've now been with Cars.com / Classified Ventures almost 8 months. I won't say I LOVE my job, because it's stressful to the max at times, but I enjoy it for the most part. I love my co-workers and being downtown every day. Oh and that big, shiny raise and end of year bonus sure helped!
So that shiny bonus + my awesome tax return just bought me the brand spankin new Macbook Pro that I'm currently typing this on. FINALLY after spending almost 2.5 years without a working computer to my name, I was able to purchase myself a quality machine that I've been drooling over for years. I love it!
For the sake of time and length, I'll just make a quick list of happenings for the rest of my update.
-Got to meet Tommy Wiseau back in February during a screening of The Room at Music Box Theatre!
-Got to meet the lovely Eva Marie Saint at a screening of Hitchcock's North By Northwest at Music Box in January! (noticing a trend here? Music Box ROCKS!)
-Had my 27th birthday a couple weeks ago on April 10th. Should I be starting to feel old yet? haha.
-Had a fabulous time at home in Indy and then down to Louisville last weekend for Thunder Over Louisville. One of my dad's vendors from work pays to bring him and my mom down every year and this year they paid for my brother and I (and one of his friends) as well. Talk about wining and dining! Taken out for a fantastic dinner & drinks on Friday night. Followed by an all day food and drink-a-thon on Saturday for the airshow and fireworks. And omg those fireworks were the best I've ever seen in my life! And did I mention we were on the 15th floor penthouse suite of a hotel on the river? And had our own concierge! Omg. One of the best days ever!
-Registered to run the Chicago Marathon in October which I'm currently training for! Starting tomorrow with my very first 5k for charity, The Race to Wrigley. Woohoo. It's gonna be very hard work but I know I can do it. Right now, I'm at about 6-7 miles.
-Totally excited to see Conan O'Brien at the Chicago Theatre next month! Followed by my very first IKEA excursion in the suburbs then a very fun-filled weekend visit by my mom. Amongst our plans: Chicago chocolate tour and a Chicago ghost tour. I love getting to do touristy silly things when I'm showing people around. :)
-Also have two totally amazing upcoming trips planned. Vegas and Los Angeles, July 3rd to the 10th. Then Paris, London, Mont St. Michel, and a few yet to be determined European locales with my mom in May 2011!
Between now and then, I'll just be loving life and living it the best I can. I'm planning to move out of this apartment when the lease is up at the end of August. Definitely gonna be looking at one bedroom places in Edgewater (another neighborhood of Chicago, just a bit north of where I currently live in Old Town). I decided no more roommates unless it's a very attached boyfriend or husband. :)
Ok, this is gone on long enough. But hey, I only update once every 5 or 6 months.. so I think you'll live!
