Anyone been to London that has any recommendations of fun things to do, nice places to eat that aren't a small fortune, or any other tips? I will be there for a week at Thanksgiving.

We have most of the trip planned already, but figured I'd ask.

Invest in an Oyster Card.

Pick a tube station below, nearby stuff that I liked...

FUN:
Waterloo Station
  • London Eye

    District/Circle Line, Tower Hill
  • Tower of London
  • Tower Bridge
  • All Hallows Church (catacombs museum)

    Northern Line, Camden Town
  • Camden Market on Sunday

    Picadilly Line, Knightsbridge
  • Harrod's (just for the sake of seeing it)

    Picadilly Line, Hyde Park Corner
    Central Line, Queensway
    District/Circle Line, Bayswater
  • Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens
  • the museums

    Central Line, White City
  • The BBC?

    FOOD:

    Chainy stuff:
  • Yo! Sushi (tons of locations)
  • Wagamama (rice, noodles, has vegetarian-friendly items and good prices)
(also tons of locations, but if you're up by the Camden Locks, there's one nearby)

    Not chainy stuff:
  • I'm not a big fan of Indian, but Indian Veg (completely vegan and cheap)
Ask absinthea, I forget where it is.

Plus, you can eat at certain pubs, but it gets pricey. You shouldn't eat at a pub every day.

    Eating on the cheap:
absinthea and I grab lunch food on the go. Tesco, Sainsbury, and M&S have "Metro", "Express", "Local", etc. versions where you can pick up ready-made sandwiches and salads, crisps, bottles of water by the litre, and yoghurts (you'll need to go to a bigger location to get the clotted cream yoghurts, though)

You can eat at any of the American embassies too (BK, McD's, KFC) just to say you did. It does taste a bit different. And remember, all the Coca-Cola and Pepsi products are made with REAL SUGAR, not high fructose corn syrup. Mmmm...SUGAR.

    Don't forget your drug stores!
  • Boots

There should be a Lush store in Victoria Station too, if you're coming in through Gatwick and taking the Express...

When I think up some more stuff, I'll let you know.
