Spent the end of last week not going into lab and instead sewing on my silks for E's party on Sat. I did successfully finish the purple/white and black/crimson kimono on Friday about 15 minutes before hapkido.
Clever kitten that I am, one of the first things I did in the most of two days at home was go talk to the apartment people about the state of the AC in my place. It does blow cooler air but after it's been on 5 hours and it's cooled to 85 degrees outside it should not still be 89 degrees INSIDE. They told me that pretty much I shouldn't expect it to get below 85 when it's 100 degrees out. And I'm OK with that, but I'm not OK with it STILL pushing 90 when it's no longer 100 degrees out. They said they'd look at it. And when I got back from dance and dinner I got home to a nice shiny brand new AC unit and a 76 degree apartment. YAY! It did stop working again Sat. morning, and it was 93 degrees again but after defrosting it for a few hours it seemed to be working again.
And the fix in the AC was just in time too. I didn't realize when I spent most of Sat. cleaning the place in anticipation of stevefava's visit that it was 109-111 out depending on which source you believe. I just cleaned my entire apartment in 110 degree weather. I must be insane. It's been 100+ for the last 8-9 days? Since last Sat or Sunday and the last 3 have been pushing 110. And its supposed to continue for at least the next week. Why do people live here? Ugh.
The heat combined with the unseasonable humidity did mean that E's south pacific party had a very authentic feel to it. I dressed in my silks, though I didn't wear the full planned kit and settled for 3 layers of silk not 4 and once stevefava showed up I shed the doubled top layer down to a single. It was a lovely evening though, loupyone did an excellent job as an enabler. And I'm glad I had the excuse to make the silks. Though I got several comments of 'you look hot, of course you're hot you're wearing all that synthetic polyester'. Not polyester folks Argh. Polyester Yech. But I have them now for lounging about the house or wearing out if I want to. Mmmm silkies. And yes there were pictures taken.
